Just as a reminder, we remain closed for the test if the week. This is due to the extreme heat that had been predicted for the rest of the week.

We reopen, Monday 29th June.

Keep cool, use wet cloths for your dogs
Or a cool jacket.

See you soon.

22/06/2026

This has been a very hard decision.

Due to the weather warnings ⚠️ and the humidity that is expected for the rest of the week, we have made the decision to close from Tuesday. We will remain closed for the rest of the week and reopen on Monday 29th.

The warnings go throughout the week, tomorrow and Friday being the worst. Our kitchens can hit 45c in the heat, so we would rather be safe.

Rather than opening and closing depending on the weather warnings this will, stop people getting confused. Our adults also.

It is unlikely people will come out in the extreme heat too.

As our adults, sometimes struggle with the heat, some having health issues which could be triggered, we have to think of them first and of course, keeping customers cool, whilst today we have managed, we dont think this will be possible to maintain that all week with rising temperatures.

Looking forward to welcoming you back on Monday 29th.

We hope you understand

Good morning.

It was a lovely Saturday, nice and busy and the temperature was kind until later in the evening.

All cakes sold, so its a start again this morning....now what can I do today?

We are watching the weather for Tuesday. It keeps changing, so not sure on the temperature. We do the best we can to keep things cool, but if it becomes unbearable, obviously pur adults come first.

So yesterday, I ma aged to fix the mower. It took some time as each side has a different threat. One clockwise and one anticlockwise. Mark wanted to help and couldnt quite get the different turns. Kept getting frustrated as it was left to tighten on that side. He would get half way through and stop and say it was undoing, when it wasnt.

Two hours later, he eventually allowed me to finish on my own and I finally ma aged to put it all together. All worked..........accept..
The mower forward thrust was on a go slow. I couldnt get it up small inclines and had to rock it forward like a child on a go kart, trying to get it to run down a hill.

That was frustrating. But as I got it going forward I could almost finish the front, but no able to go up any incline, so could not do the part next to the road. I managed to do the field....well...most of it. Took 2 hours instead of the usual 1. I just sat there, as if an adult sat on a kiddies fun ride, with one of those fed up faces, wishing it would end. A few times it would stop, so I had to push myself forward to get some momentum up the slight incline. I ran out of fuel as I got to the gate side of the field, so I will have a go Tuesday evening to finish it and then see why the mower will not go forward. Its a hydrostatic mower, so I will check fluids and the deck belt and see what's going on. Hopefully nothing drastic. Ive spent a fortune on parts already!

So I applogise for the front, its too long and I cant cut it yet!

My camper goes in for its MOT today, so fingers crossed, its OK. Only really been a few places in it and I need to do more, but time is an issue. Back to 6 days a week so I only have Sunday to go anywhere.

Then im off to see Jasper Carrot. I didnt realise he was now 81. Fingers crossed he still has the humour he had before. Always wanted to see him and Lee Evans but I believe he's retired too. I had tickets to see Peter Kay once, pretty good tickets, but he cancelled and closed his shows down. So that was the end of that.

Still waiting for the companies to come back for our freezer unit. It takes people, so much time to come back to us. Tried a lot of local companies as well as further aways and its the further away ones that cone back to us.

Makes no sense. Im trying to keep it local, but not getting answers back!

Right, cake time

See you later.

Good morning.

Phew that was a warm one. Fans barring, trying to keep Hope cool. Drapping her with wet cloths, fans on
Yeah, ot was warm.

My car is fixed, so no more clunky noises when I go over bumps or turn corners. I know i have a few fuses to look at as the fans have stopped working..i knew that before she went in to be fixed. The advantage of a convertible is when its hot, you open the roof! I will get them done. Ive a lot to do this weekend. It was too hot to fix the mower and Mark was not in the best place, so its easier to stay out the way.

Once we close tonight, it will either be the mower or the car fuses. Then wash my campervan as its going in for an MOT on Monday and so far, the solar on the tearoom is still working! So no climbing the roof today.

At the moment the tearoom is cool, fans on and we are not expected the heat at that temperature until Tuesday. So menu all back together today. Still have cold filled baguettes or prestzel rolls on today if you wanted something filling but cool.

Im still excited about the freezer unit. We are bringing in other quotes now, just in case things have changed from our quote as this has been some time coming. We are trying to stick local, but they dont seem to reply. What is wrong with some of these companies. As the moment we are looking at a company at Worstershire. We really would like to be closer than that!

So if you know of a localised company who works in commercial monoblock freezer u its, give them a shout and point them in our direction. This project needs to be completed and up and running by.middle of August.

The veranda is opening its arms for me this morning. The birds with their chorus song are well away, the coolness of the morning, the beautiful flowers, shrubs and herbs adorn the space and it feels so natural and magical to sit here. It truly is a wonderful space, far more than I ever imagined it would be.

A space like no other, beautiful, mostly peaceful and you could be anywhere in the world, just sitting here. Sipping bean coffee and chatting to friends or indeed just sitting on your own, taking in the countryside.

I need some of those wooden loungers, that would fit in and not be out of place, then i could sneak here when we were closed and no one would know i was here. Right now, I could lie there and sleep, listening to the birds around and gently closing my eyes and going into a deep slumber in the corner. Only Hope could give me away! Now there's a thought! 💤 😴

I've totally wound down now this is definitely a Zen area. 👌

I suppose I best move a bit and check on our stock. Ive cooked off some gammon ham and some pork shoulder, with nice fresh greens from the garden a bit of a drizzle of mayo or salad cream, perhaps strawberries and cream for after (from our garden) and all will be right with the world.

Perfect.

Right, im slumbering off into a cup of coffee ready to welcome everyone who is heading our way.

Just perfect.

See you later

To keep the temperature down in the kitchens today, we will be doing, fresh baguettes or sandwiches.
Gammon ham, pork, tuna, cheese, salad etc.

We will be able to do chips, squid bowl and cauliflower in batter.

This is only foe the predicted heat today.

Back to normal menu tomorrow as we believe it will be cooler.

Of course cakes and all drinks will be served. We also have a flow of ice for your cold drinks.

See you later.

Good morning.

Sorry, been rushing around this morning. In and out of the tearoom, on the road before the heat rose to much.

So our amazing news!

We are all excited and its been a long time coming. We have worked hard, saved hard and a great big thank you to East Midlands Railways, who have put us in a position of being able to have our long awaiting freezer room and freezer unit.

This will enable us to store more of our home grown products and donations of fruits and vegetables allowing us to maintain our free heat or eat meals in the winter and enhancing our warm space. It will also allow us to expand our service and batch cook for those in need

We have always kept this service quiet, something we have done for the last 5 years, and have gone under the guidance and sign posting of our community connections with various organisations. We will now be able to expand this, as well as keep some produce for the tearoom in house and buy in bulk. Something we have missed out on for sometime.

There is a lot of work and safety procedures to be written up. Uniforms to buy for the specific use of the freezer room and lots of organisation. We have already made one of our adults as the lead for the freezer room. And have been training her for a while now.

The other exciting development which will certainly please our adults as well as our customers, is we will now have a designated space for Ice Cream! Woohoo.

It will be fabulous to bring that back to our menu.

Thanks also go to The Five Bells - Butterwick for helping us raise our side of the funding for the freezer unit we are very grateful. (We have more projects on the go, so still need your help.😁)

Its been a long time in planning, developing and designing and we are now there!

Amazing....Just so damm fantastic.

19/06/2026

It will be a later post today! Maybe not too late.but have to make a delivery this morning .

We may also have to close early, due to the heat and safety of our staff.

Mostly cold meals on today as the ovens and grills make it unbearable in the kitchen.

Lots of baguettes, filled with your choice. Freah pork cooked today and gammon ham.

Any air fryer dish we will be able to cook, so chips included.

Cakes of course and coffee and tea as well as cold drinks.
