On Wednesday we took the day out and spent some time with the team and Worcester Produce
Serving the best of British isn’t something we’ve just started doing, it’s always been part of who we are.
It was an honour to be shown around some of the 800 acres. Dan Byrd and their family have been growing fruit and veg since the 80s, and are the UK’s biggest grower of British plums and purple sprouting, and have orchards full of apples grown for Inch’s, Bulmers and Aspall.
From Wye valley asparagus and blueberries, to English strawberries and raspberries, rainbow chard, crown prince squash and cauliflower all from the farm in Evesham.
We proudly serve British as much as we can, both on our menus and specials. Not only does it taste better, it reduces airmiles and we are supporting an industry challenged as much as ours.
In this extreme heat, it’s become harder and harder to keep the crops happy and healthy. It’s the driest it’s been since ‘75, water is being restricted, and the government support is diminishing. It was eye-opening to see the struggles.
Thank you for giving us your time and showing us behind the scenes.
