To celebrate The Mitre's affiliation with CAMRA since I became Landlord, we are hosting a special night of Real Ale and Real Cider on Wednesday 24th June.
It was one of Keith Templeman's proudest achievements to win the MK & North Bucks CAMRA Pub of The Year in 2015 and that set the standard we had to maintain. Back then I was a lager drinker, but after taking over The Mitre in 2017, I knew I had big shoes to fill and a customer base baying for great beer... so off I went on a journey of discovery; one that nowadays is never ending with the incedible breweries up and down the country producing A* quality brews.
CAMRA have a rule whereby a pub drops out of The Good Beer Guide for a period following change of ownership, but we nevertheless set out to meet their standards from day one and in 2019 returned to The Good Beer Guide where we have stayed ever since.
This return to the guide was achieved through collaboration between quality suppliers, dedicated staff, customers who wanted us to succeed and my eargerness to learn about what it takes to serve a good pint, and the many potential pitfalls that exist before the beer hits the glass.
In 2020, 2023 & 2025 we were awarded CAMRA Pub of the Year for MK & North Bucks. Each and every time it has been a massive honour and recognition for the dedication of our evolving teams through the years. The staff at The Mitre have developed an attention to detail that our customers appreciate and shout about.
In 2025, we were also awarded CAMRA Pub of the Year for the whole of Buckinghamshire; the first time The Mitre has one that award and when you think about all the great pubs scattered around the county, it was a real achievement.
We're look forward to celebrating with a beer and a burger on Wednesday, to thank the CAMRA members and our customers for your unstinted support throughout my time at The Mitre. It's also a chance to shine the light on my amazing team who I will miss a great deal when it comes to hand over the keys on Tuesday 30th June.
See you then!
Pete
