So today marks one whole year since I opened Matilda’s @ The Eating House after we all lost our jobs last September.

It has been full of ups and downs. Tears and laughter. Adversity I never thought would come my way and memories that will stay with me forever. I am surrounded by good souls and an excellent group of friends who I am privileged to call colleagues.

We are also blessed with a plethora of wonderful customers who make every day more fun and more interesting. I feel honoured that you continue to support us.

These people are the reason I wanted to take the leap. It was scary starting a company on my own with limited business knowledge but I have never felt alone throughout this year and have never felt more supported in my life.

Thank you to you all and to my neighbours at the Derbyshire Gift Centre for your unending support and kindness.

Here is a picture of Matilda. The cafe’s namesake. She was my best friend for years before she went off to the rainbow bridge 🌈 to be with her brother a few years ago. I miss her terribly all the time but the cafe is now another way for me to remember her and all the joy she bought to my life.

‼️ SCAMMER ALERT ‼️

Sadly this morning we had someone turn up who thought they were going to be part of a craft fair they were told we were hosting, and they had paid money out for a stall to an individual who’d posted online in a community group, claiming they were running it and to contact them to reserve a space. This is the second time this has happened, and whilst the first time we caught the individual quickly and got the post removed, this time that was not the case.

Please note that we DO NOT host craft fairs here, and if we were to in future any posts related to our business will always come directly from our verified social channels. If an individual ever asks for money on behalf of us please don’t give it to them! This is a sad scam and we felt truly heartbroken for the person who showed up hoping to sell their items in a craft fair thst didn’t exist 😩

Please be vigilant as scammers online are rife. Always feel free to contact us if you’ve seen something you’re not sure about!
