Hey everyone!

I just wanted to pop on here with a little reminder about something I’m really excited for…

On 1st August, we’ll be welcoming you into the Cotley Garden for our very first Garden Supper. It’s something we’ve never done before, and seeing it all come together has been so special.

We’re incredibly lucky to be hosting the evening alongside and , and together we’ve created a relaxed and beautiful summer evening with delicious food, wonderful wine, stunning flowers and plenty of time to simply slow down and enjoy a Saturday in the garden.

The garden has always been one of my favourite places here at Cotley, especially on a summer evening, so being able to share it with you all in this way means so much.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, we’d absolutely love to welcome you.

Small Plates from The Little Tin Hut

The Little Tin Hut isn’t just about pizza. It’s about those extra plates that find their way to the middle of the table, shared between friends over a bottle of rosé and another round of drinks.

Think crispy Beechridge Farm chicken wings tossed in hot honey BBQ, garlic and parmesan or buffalo with blue cheese. Half pints of shell-on prawns, golden scampi with garlic aioli, sweet padrón peppers and lemon sole goujons with proper tartare sauce.

Order a few, pass them around, and settle into a long summer evening. That’s exactly how they were meant to be enjoyed.

From the garden...

The lavender is in bloom, the bees have returned, and the terrace has become our favourite place to watch the season unfold.

There’s something about eating outdoors that makes time feel a little slower. A long lunch turns into an afternoon, dinner stretches into sunset, and before you know it, another summer’s evening has slipped by.

If you’re looking for us, we’ll be on the terrace.

Pizza on the Lawn is back for the next 8 weeks! 🍕☀️

For us, this is when summer really begins at The Cotley.

Think wood-fired pizzas, small plates, cold pints, chilled rosé, glowing fire pits, laid-back tunes and long evenings spent in the garden with family and friends.

It’s everything we love about summer, and we can’t wait to do it all again.

🌸 Meet Kate & Patrick from Backyard Flowers 🌸

For An Evening in Bloom, we’re delighted to be joined by Kate & Patrick from Backyard Flowers, who will be leading our seasonal floral workshop.

After swapping London life for Somerset, they’ve built a beautiful flower farm centred around sustainable, seasonal growing. During the workshop, they’ll share their knowledge, demonstrate how to create a stunning floral arrangement, and guide you as you make your own centrepiece to enjoy throughout the evening—and take home afterwards.

Your ticket also includes a floral toolkit to keep, a three-course feasting-style supper created by Head Chef Dan Brown, and a guided English wine experience with Sandbridge Barton, all enjoyed in the gardens of The Cotley Inn at golden hour.

In last month’s musings, I discussed why Sunday lunch still matters in Britain.

For me, it’s never just been about the food. It’s the familiar routine, everyone gathered around the table, the inevitable debate over the last Yorkshire pudding, and far too much gravy.

In a world where everything seems to move a little faster each year, there’s something comforting about a tradition that hasn’t really changed.

Sometimes it’s the simplest rituals that end up meaning the most.

The forecast is looking rather lovely for Somerset this weekend, and I couldn’t think of a better excuse to enjoy lunch in the countryside.

If you’re nearby, do come and join us. I’ll have the terrace ready for those who’d like to dine outside, and inside you’ll find the same warm welcome as always.

There’s nothing quite like good food, a glass of something chilled, and views across the hills on a sunny afternoon.

I hope to see some familiar faces-and perhaps a few new ones too.

Backyard Flower Farm x The Cotley Inn x Sandbridge Barton Wines.

Join us for a summer afternoon and evening of flowers, food and English wine in the gardens at The Cotley Inn.

🗓️Saturday 1st August
🕛4:00pm – 8:30pm
🎟️ £125 per person

The afternoon begins with a relaxed floral workshop led by Kate & Patrick from Backyard Flower Farm. Together, they’ll share the story behind their Somerset flower farm and guide you through creating your own seasonal arrangement using sustainable techniques and locally grown flowers.

Everything you need is included, from your flower bowl and kenzan to snips and floristry tools, all of which you’ll take home to enjoy again.

As the tables are dressed with everyone’s creations, we’ll gather in the garden for a three-course feasting supper, thoughtfully prepared by Head Chef Dan Brown using produce from our kitchen garden and the Cotley Estate. Throughout the evening, the team from Sandbridge Barton Wines will introduce a selection of English wines from their vineyard on the banks of the River Dart, perfectly paired with the menu.

A relaxed celebration of the season, bringing together beautiful flowers, thoughtful food and exceptional local wine in the Somerset countryside.
