Cockburnspath and Cove

Cockburnspath and Cove Welcome to the vibrant community of Cockburnspath & Cove situated on the east coast of the Scottish Borders. The Village today is small but busy!

For more information on our village, please visit our website: www.copathandcove.com Cockburnspath is a beautiful and small community situated on the east coast of the Scottish Borders. We are on the border between East Lothian and the Borders and are ideally positioned between Scotland's capital city of Edinburgh in the north and the historic town of Berwick - Upon - Tweed in the south. We are a

coastal village which is popular with many tourists and surfers. We have the stunning coastline as well as being a short distance from the John Muir Way. Cockburnspath is the end of the popular Southern Upland Way beginning in Portpatrick in the West and concluding right here, in Cockburnspath. From Cockburnspath the John Muir Way can be followed for around 9 miles along the East Lothian coast to Dunbar for anyone wanting to catch a train. The area of Cockburnspath has many archeological remains which indicate it has been lived and fought over since the Bronze Age. It lies close to the old invasion route from England into Scotland. The name of our village has changed since even earlier that 1128! Cockburnspath was initially called Kolbrandr, where the name has changed to what it is known as now (Cockburnspath) and most commonly known as Co'path. Cockburnspath was very much a place where people worked the land, traded it and forfeited it as well as building upon it. This is still commonly some activities in Cockburnspath with farms surrounding the village and having estates in the imminent geography. The village has many events and projects taking place all year round including our Community Cafe, Gala Day, Annual Flower Show, Coffee Mornings, Computer Workshops, Art Exhibitions, Meditation, Worship and so much more. We have great facilities including our Village Hall, Primary School, Village Store, Bowling Club, Church, Church Hall and Football Field. Cove is a natural harbour which was improved in 1831 by the building of a break water. The harbour is privately owned. The village of Cove has been described as having more of a Cornish than Scottish air about it. Cove is largely homes and holiday homes with Pease Bay Leisure Park nearby and Cockburnspath just under one mile away. Nearby beaches include Pease Bay and Thornton Loch which are both great for surfing. Roadworks on Wednesday

Notice from EGL1 of upcoming lane closure on the A1, next to the junctions for Bilsdean/Dunglass. This closure will be in place on Wednesday 14th July, between 9:30am and 3:30pm. We apologise for the late notice of the works, and are aware this will cause disruption to the community.

The closure is needed to support Prysmian’s work to install highway monitoring equipment ahead of drilling a cable route beneath the carriageway. The dates and times were only confirmed this week following discussions between Prysmian and BEAR Scotland, which is why we have been unable to provide more notice.

Traffic will continue to travel in both directions along the A1 using temporary traffic lights. There will be no diversion in place, and the traffic lights will be monitored throughout the works. East Lothian Council has approved the traffic management, and advance warning signs have been installed at the site. Details of the closure are also available on the Scottish Road Works Register.

We are happy to provide any further information on request, and are happy for you to circulate this information to all interested members of the local community.

As part of our Community Survey, we had the pleasure of running a fantastic workshop with 16 children from Co'Path Primary School.
Thanks to Ms Foy and all the teaching staff for welcoming us into the school and supporting us to bring the voices of our young people to the table as we shape our Community Plan for the next 5-10 years.
We were absolutely blown away by the quality of their ideas and contributions. We had some fantastic discussions about what it's like to be a child growing up in and around Co'Path and attending school here. Together we talked about travel and transport, explored the places that matter most to them, and had a bit of fun imagining what they would do for our children and our village if they were Mayor of Co'Path!
When we asked what they loved most about living here, their top three answers were:
🌳 The park
🏪 The village shop
❤️ The kind adults
How lovely is that?
