It was an incredible event, well done to everyone involved πŸ‘

Last Friday I stood in Coleraine Town Hall and did something I will not forget for a long time.
I was asked to anchor the Breaking the Silence conference. To open it and to close it. To set the tone for every conversation that happened in between, and then to hold it all together at the end.
I have spoken at many events. But being trusted to carry the whole arc of a day, to be the first voice people hear and the last one they leave with, that is something different. That is not a speaking slot. That is a responsibility.
I thought about all the stories in that room. The people who came carrying experiences that most of us will never have to navigate. The community members willing to sit with discomfort and listen anyway. The organisations doing quiet, unglamorous, essential work that rarely makes headlines.
I thought about why I founded Humanitas Initiative. And I felt, very clearly, that this is exactly where the work belongs.
Thank you Building Communities Resource Centre and speakers for making β€œBreaking the Silence” happen(White Ribbon NI Nexus Ni, Politics In Action Northern Ireland Women's Resource and Development Agency Infuse Tea Bar FactCheckNI Causeway and Mid-Ulster Women's Aid) And thank you to everyone who showed up.
This is what it looks like when a community chooses to listen.
Humanity before passports. 🧑

In a world that keeps getting louder and more chaotic, at INFUSE we're quietly in the business of helping real human connection happen.

We're not good at shouting about what we do very much. But that's not the point of these nights.

Some events are quiet, some are loud, all of them are a space where you can just be yourself. Where you don't have to mask up the same way as other places, or even explain yourself. They are the kind of events where you can come with a friend, or just on your own.

Here's what we have coming up in June:
β˜• Connection CafΓ© on Thursday 4th, with the wonderful BCRC. An evening to meet an learn from people from diverse backgrounds.
🧠 Neurodiversity Meet-up on Wednesday 10th form 7pm. There's no formal diagnosis needed, come meet other neuro spicy people without the mask. Adults only.
πŸ““ Journal Club is back with Nuala of on Friday 12th. A gorgeous evening where you get to carve out some time for yourself.
🌈 Pride Music Night with on Saturday 13th. An easy alcohol free, free to attend, so you just rock up. Doors open at 7pm.
πŸ“– Silent Book Club Thursday 18th
🎀 Open Mic Poetry hosted by the wonderful Dr. Cass North on Saturday 20th and become a steady Tea Bar favourite night.
🧢 Whimsical Craft Night on Thursday 25th
🎲 Board Game Night Saturday 27th

For all the deets, swipe through. Our till's open for drinks and treats every night, with many of the nights free to attend.

Now tag the person you already know would love it. We'll see you in our wee safe space soon!

We don't usually talk about this...

Or at least we don't lead with it because we don't want to be known as "the gluten free place." INFUSE is a Tea Bar/cafe first. It's the good food meets the amazing tea, coffee & signature drinks. It's the welcome, the safe space, the quiet. All of it.

And whilst May was Coeliac Awareness Month, we are here all year round, doing the bit we don't say enough.

Our entire kitchen is gluten free. That means every dish, every surface, every utensil. No shared pans, no flour in the air and no "let me check with the kitchen."

We've been entirely gluten free from day dot. It definitely makes a rod for our own back, but we believe that gluten free food can be good enough that most people won't realise.

It does mean that we'll never serve scones, because there's no way you can pass a GF scone as a real one, but that's ok, there's plenty of other places to cater for that scone craving in the town.

So Causeway Coast Coeliacs, if you've spent years scanning menus, asking the same questions, hoping the answer is the one you want, you can stop doing that here. We've got you.

We'd love it if you could share this far and wide and tag your Coeliac bestie to let them know πŸ₯°

PS: the background noise in the spoken part is why we don't typically film when there's customers still in πŸ™ˆ

This is what boba looks like when it grows up...

Lavender and Earl Grey have been a house favourite flavour combination long before the Tea Bar existed. This drink exists to satisfy that craving!

It contains an amazing medley of quality ingredients form Lavender syrup and our own Earl Grey syrup. To milk and a double espresso of their Malarkey blend. Chewy tapioca boba and finally a Vanilla cold foam we make ourselves.

If you love a London Fog, live for a good coffee, or you're a boba person who wants something a bit more, this one's for you.

We CANNOT wait!!! PowerPoint Party Vol. 3 is this Friday.

We're two PowerPoint Parties in and somehow they keep working, in all kinds of wonderful chaos.

So what the hell is a PowerPoint Party?

People get up to present on a topic of their choice, whether it be something serious or unhinged, both are welcome and we have had both. They typically last about 10 minutes each.

It means a lot to us because we know so many people with special interests who usually feel like they need to shut up in a conversation, like they can't info dump. Well this is your opportunity.

There are only 2 rules: no selling/pitching AND be respectful. Outside of that the floor is genuinely yours.

The last two have been a real mix of serious and completely unhinged and that mix is the whole point.

There's still time to grab a slot if you've got something you've been quietly obsessed with. You don't need to be a confident presenter, you just need to care about the thing.

Send us a DM with a rough idea.

If you'd rather just come and watch, honestly the audience is half the fun. Just rock up.

We are told to be scared of strangers. Except for most women, that was never where the danger was.

When a woman is hurt, it is almost always someone she knew. Whether that's a partner, an ex, or even her own family.

So, we cannot say this plainly enough. Silence on this topic only leaves room for the loudest of voices, who push a rhetoric that is categorically untrue... Because the threat does not come from outsiders.

Building Communities Resource Centre (aka BCRC) are running an event where we get a chance to speak our experiences out loud.

The Breaking the Silence: Women, Migration and Misconceptions event is happening in Coleraine Town Hall on Friday. It will be an opportunity for open and honest conversations about violence against women and girls, as well as the misconceptions built up around it.

There will be speakers from Women's Aid, Women's Resource Development Agency, Nexus and White Ribbon, as well as FactCheckNI and Politics in Action.

This will be a women only event.

There will be no photos or videos, simply a room you can actually be honest and share your experiences in.

We are standing behind this one with our whole chest.

Everything we have built at INFUSE comes back to the same principles, that our space is somewhere you are met with no judgement, somewhere you can be safe, be yourself, heard if that's what you need. Ultimately ithe Tea Bar is somewhere you are not on your own, where community matters.

This event will do this and more on a bigger scale to our wee tea bar.

I've been asked to contribute a few words on the part we play in building a safe community. So, if you have a free morning, come. I would really like to see you there.

Happy International Tea Day, we hope your cup is filled with your favourite tea tonight!

πŸ‘‰ This is your reminder that we have two events this week!

First up is our Silent Book Club, happening this Thursday 21st at 7pm for two hours. The first hour you get to spend in silence surrounded by others reading. The second hour you can do as you need, keep reading, have a chat or head home, whatever suits you best. There's no set book and it's a super chill night.

Second is our Board Game Night happening on Saturday 23rd at 7pm. It's a bring your own game kind of night, that one that's been building up dust for donkey knows how long. It's that excuse to message your mates and organise a gaming sesh. We do also have games available to play on the night too.

Both nights are free to attend and our till is open for drinks and treats from our cabinet.

✨ Get tagging your friends for some good solid catch up time and join us!
