Cruachan - The Hollow Mountain

Cruachan - The Hollow Mountain Cruachan Power Station and Visitors Centre's Official Page Hidden deep within the mountain of Ben Cruachan on the shores of Loch awe is Cruachan Power Station.

Situated amongst some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery, lying deep within Ben Cruachan is one of the country's most amazing engineering achievements. Here, a short distance from Oban, you can discover one of the hidden wonders of the Highlands. A power station buried one kilometre below the ground. At its centre lies a massive cavern, high enough to house the Tower of London! Here enormous tur

bines convert the power of water into electricity, available to you in your home at the flick of a switch. The hollow mountain is a place like no other. An underground world on a spectacular scale. The visitor centre is open from February - mid December. Winter hours available on request. During the summer months Easter to October we are open from 09:15 - 16.45.

Potential travel disruption near Cruachan.

As part of the ongoing upgrade and refurbishment of Cruachan Power Station, several heavy loads are due to be delivered to site on Monday 20th July, Wednesday 22nd July and Friday 24th July.

The loads will cross the Connel Bridge and continue along the A85 to Cruachan. They will move slowly with a police es**rt, so some delays are possible on nearby roads.

Timings may change, but we currently expect the loads to arrive at the power station at around 3pm on each day.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
