Congratulations, Ruth Hansom!

A huge congratulations to Ruth Hansom and the team at Hansom Restaurant on winning the Newcomer Award at this year's Cateys - a fantastic and well-deserved achievement! 👏

We're incredibly proud to have welcomed Ruth to Darlington College on several occasions, where she has inspired our Hospitality and Catering students through masterclasses and, most recently, by working alongside our learners to deliver a sold-out fine dining experience at The Glasshouse Restaurant.

Sharing her passion, expertise and commitment to developing the next generation of chefs has made a lasting impact on our students, and it's wonderful to see her talent recognised on one of the hospitality industry's biggest stages.

Congratulations once again, Ruth – we look forward to welcoming you back to The Glasshouse in the future! 🍽️✨

We are delighted to share that Hansom Restaurant has won the ‘Newcomer’ award in this year’s Cateys, hosted by The Caterer 🥂.

Judge Thom Hetherington described Hansom as ‘a perfectly realised, cohesive restaurant, shaped and delivered by the passion and talent of Ruth Hansom. She is chef-patron who is not only leading her own business, but also taking the whole sector forwards’.

This award is testament to our small and brilliant team who continue to champion our brilliant industry and our corner of North Yorkshire every day.

Congratulations to every other winner who took home their title at yesterday’s ceremony. Cheers to us! ✨

We are now closed for a well deserved summer break🌞

It has been wonderful welcoming you all through our doors over the past year. From those who joined our themed evenings to everyone who chose to their events with us.

As many of you know, our restaurant is run by learners alongside our experience hospitality and culinary tutors. None of what we do would be possible without your support. Our learners and tutors are incredibly grateful for the opportunities you've given them to build their skills, confidence and knowledge throughout their courses.

We look forward to seeing you all again after the break.

The Gastronomy Evening at The Glasshouse Restaurant ✨

Two of our Level 3 learners in Food & Beverage Service Supervision delivered an outstanding showcase of their hospitality skills for their assessment evening, providing brilliant table service throughout the event. From presenting a show stopping steak to preparing a flambeed Crepe suzette dessert, the evening was on fire – literally! 🔥

Carl, our Level 4 learner, absolutely shone during his Assessment Evening in The Glasshouse Restaurant. His theme was Desserts from the Around the World, it was a brilliant night to showcase his growing mastery of culinary arts.

The dishes he created were bursting with talent, technique and creativity. Guests were wowed from the moment plates hit the table, and their taste buds were blown away by the flavours he delivered.
