It is with absolutely broken hearts that we have made the incredibly difficult decision not to reopen Retro Relics Games Cafe.
This has not been an easy choice, and one that we fought hard against for a long time. Sadly, a combination of rising costs, increasing competition, reduced footfall over recent months, and ongoing health struggles for both of us has made it impossible to continue sustainably.
Many of you know how much Retro Relics meant to us. We poured everything we had into creating a welcoming, fun and supportive space for people to come together, play games, talk, laugh and feel part of a community. We are devastated that we couldn’t make it work long term and truly feel heartbroken having to say goodbye.
We also want to be honest that family health has to come first. Neil has been struggling badly with his diabetes despite medication changes and major lifestyle adjustments, and with my own health issues alongside this, we simply cannot manage the long hours and demands anymore.
To every single person who supported us, whether you visited once, became a regular, attended events, bought drinks and cakes, donated games, shared our posts, or simply cheered us on, thank you. You gave us memories, friendships and kindness that we will never forget.
The support shown by this community, especially helping raise funds for Alana’s trip, absolutely blew us away and reminded us how wonderful people can be. We will always be grateful for that.
We’d also like to encourage everyone to continue supporting the amazing independent businesses at Woodlands Yard and elsewhere locally. Small businesses are struggling more than many people realise, and they genuinely need community support to survive.
Thank you for being part of our journey and for making Retro Relics so special to us.
With love and gratitude,
Neil & Denise
