Nestling along a cobbled flagstone close, just off Dumfries’ High Street, The Globe Inn, first established in 1610 and Robert Burns’ favourite Howff, combines rich and passionate history with a stunning and sympathetically refurbished restaurant, bar, private dining room and museum. The Globe offers a fusion of modern culinary techniques and traditional Scottish ingredients that delivers high qual

ity lunch and dinner menus at fantastic value for money. Reserve a table in the atmospheric ‘1610 Restaurant’ our main dining room (once the old stables), or choose our stunning Private Dining Room set within the panelled eves of the original hay loft. Whether you want to enjoy a intimate table for two or need a venue for your next business or family function, you can enjoy food of impeccable quality prepared by our Michelin-experienced chefs and enjoyable hospitable service from the front of house team. The Globe still retains its roots as an inn and you are welcome to simply enjoy a drink at the bar or in the Snug, where you can select a dram from amongst the largest selection of whisky in the region and even try a snifter of Annandale Distillery’s rare, award winning Man O’ Sword and Man O' Words peated & unpeated Single Malts. We also have an interesting selection of unusual cocktails and an extensive list of sensibly-priced quality wines, or be taken on a journey through the history of Gin and Rum. You can discover the history of Burns and his relationship with The Globe by booking on to one of the tours hosted by Burns’ Howff Club or Burns aficionado Jane Brown who tell passionate tales that will make you laugh and ponder on the stories the walls could tell. You can sit in the famous Poets Chair, if you can recite a verse of the Bard’s poetry, visit his bed chamber, kitchen and dining room, read the diamond etched verses scribed on the windowpane by his very own hand, and marvel at the various rare artefacts proudly displayed.

"Truly excellent. 10/10 feels less than enough. Quite possibly the finest meal we have ever had the pleasure to eat. Every course was a treat for the palate - layers of flavour that offered depth and unusually, surprise! So many meals are predictable but not this one. Each element perfectly cooked, balancing the other ingredients. Visually stunning and presented as though we were celebrities! The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and exceptional at all times.”

A few moments from the kitchen garden.
Enjoying the polytunnel, oxalis tuberosa, green mizuna and red mizuna are growing steadily, ready to find their way onto the menu.
Beetroot 'Boltardy' is one of the varieties we return to year after year. It copes well with the UK's changing temperatures, giving us reliable roots and beautiful leaves. Good ingredients start long before they reach the plate.

A remarkable piece of Dumfries history has found a new home.
Dating from around 1750, this beautiful Tavern Clock has watched over generations of local people.

Before arriving here at The Globe Inn, it hung for many years in Greyfriars Church and before that in what was known as the New Kirk.

Tavern clocks were once a familiar sight in public buildings, inns and meeting places, at a time when few people owned or carried a watch. They were designed to keep entire communities on time and every hour it has struck reflects centuries of people gathering, worshipping, working, dining and celebrating beneath it.

The clock has recently undergone a meticulous restoration by Rowena MacKenzie, who carried out extensive repairs to the case and carefully returned it to its original ebonised finish with elegant gilt numerals, allowing its craftsmanship and character to shine once again.

Our reel captures the special moment as this historic timepiece was carried upstairs by Tom Corrie, who bought it from an auction in Carlisle, and carefully installed in our Grand Dining Room by Tom and Gordon Black, where it begins its next chapter.

We feel incredibly privileged to be the custodians of such an important piece of local history. It will be treasured, cared for, wound weekly and admired for many years to come and we hope our guests enjoy seeing this remarkable clock continue its story.

The exclusive 'Owners Tour' at our sister site, Annandale Distillery, offers a rare opportunity to experience the distillery in a way that few people ever do.
On Sunday, 5 July, hosted personally by co-owner Professor David Thomson, you will hear the story of Annandale from its Victorian beginnings through its remarkable restoration, with behind-the-scenes access to areas that are normally closed to visitors.
The afternoon includes an in-depth look at the pioneering net-zero whisky production and a warehouse tasting of up to ten cask-strength whiskies, along with a curated Afternoon Tea. To round off the experience, every guest will take home a limited-edition 'Owners Tour' bottle.
If you have ever wanted to experience Annandale Distillery beyond the public tour, this is the one. Book your place here: https://tinyurl.com/AnnandaleEvents

Our Head Chef and Head Gardener caught up amongst the marigolds to chat about one of summer’s brightest blooms. For the chef, it’s all about their vibrant, citrusy flavour and the ways they bring colour to our dishes. For the gardener, their unmistakable scent brings back memories of school holidays.
It’s these conversations between garden and kitchen that make every season here so special.

Have you ever tasted a marigold?
