DAGMAR mountaineering club is basically open to anyone who likes climbing mountains in the pouring rain, seeing nothing, feeling pain and comparing your soggy piece to the gourmet buffet carried by your colleague. We do occasionally get some sunshine, however bronzed athletes we're not. The club is affiliated to the Mountaineering Council of Scotland and annual membership costs £20. The club curr
ently has 52 members (with a roughly 50/50 gender split) who come from a variety of backgrounds and on average about 12 - 15 people attend each monthly meet. An annual programme of meetings is prepared at the start of the year with actual dates circulated quarterly through direct e-mailing to members. We hold monthly meets often targeting munros in the summer with more local walks such as the Galloway Hills and Lake District in the winter. We also hold 5 weekend meets per year usually staying in private bunkhouses and have in previous years visited Skye, Lochaber, Cairngorms, Snowdonia, Torridon, Knoydart etc
Anyone interested in joining us would be more than welcome. We are a mixed group with some experienced climbers and some less so. There are a few crag rats amongst us, but not many that like dangling from little bits of rope. An interesting packed lunch is a must though and you will also need waterproofs, a rucksack and a pair of boots.
