A message to the hospitality industry:
James and I have spent the day donating our leftover produce to food banks as many others restaurants have done. However it occurred to us that we have surplus surface sanitiser & vinyl gloves. As you all know these kind of things are in short supply in many places such as nursing homes. We phoned a few places and within 10 minutes found somewhere that was desperate for our donation.
As much as people joke about the toilet roll supply issues the food banks also are in short supply of them. So we managed to donate around 30 rolls to one in Dundee.
Literally every hospitality business in the UK has these kind of things. Sanitiser, hand wash, toilet roll, gloves are all things that others need right now. Whether you are a coffee shop, burger van or cocktail bar we all have something we can donate.
Its a really tough time for us as an industry at the moment, nothing is certain and everyone is worried. But the reality of the situation is that these things are no use to the majority of us at the moment. And as an industry we should do our bit to help the public. We can literally save lives by giving these things away.
So I urge you all to consider to do the same. What is £100 worth of stock compared to potentially saving someones life. If you’re not in a position to give away company property pass this message to your manager, if you’re working for a national chain speak to corporate office. If you do not work in the industry share this with someone who does.
Please do NOT show up at a nursing homes without contacting them first as you could put others at risk. Do a quick google and ring some up to see if you can help.
We’ll all get through this together but right now we need to do what we can to help those in need.
