As you’d expect, much has changed for the restaurant over the years.

For starters, The Lothian Restaurant became Khushi’s in 1974. And only a few years later, tragedy struck the family. In 1977, while on pilgrimage, Khushi died – and his family had to pick up the reins. Much like her husband, Khushi’s wife had little English, but plenty of determination – and took over the restaurant, while raising seven kids. Now, it’s the sons that grew up in the kitchens of the

first restaurants that run the show. Scotland’s a lot more used to the cuisine, so you’ll find a lot more than you used to on our menus. But some things don’t change – like the bring-your-own-booze policy, the great atmosphere and the dedication to the very best ingredients.

Khushi's might not be cooking at the moment but we are still caring and keeping an eye on our community.

It has come to our attention that our good friend Sarah Keeble, who always selflessly dedicated her time and effort to make our community a better place including creating S.H.I.E.L.D FIFE and working with us to deliver free meals and positivity during the lock downs, could really do with a hand right now.

She is currently looking for a private let flat for herself and her son to reset after a difficult set of circumstances. If you know of any that are available or have any leads please contact her directly. We have shared her original post below and you can help by also sharing it and spreading the word. Let's make a positive impact in the life of someone who truly deserves it.

Together, let's show our gratitude and support for someone who has always been there for us.

We only wish we could do more.

**Khushi's Update**
It's almost exactly two months to the day since a fire broke out in an apartment above the restaurant devastating the building and we're not ashamed to say that the going has been tough but we are making progress.

Due to the extent of the damage it has taken longer than expected to secure the building and make it safe but we are pleased to say that all traffic around the building has returned to normal and our thanks go out to our wonderful neighbours who have been incredibly patient whilst this was happening.

The damage to the building and restaurant has now been assessed and to give you the abridged version

1) The roof and supporting beams were destroyed in the fire
2) The third floor of the building has been completely gutted
3) The second floor of the restaurant has heavy damage from both the blaze and the water used to put it out
4) The ground floor although spared the fire has suffered extensive water damage and sadly there is very little that is salvageable

There's no question, this will be a long road to recovery but every journey starts with the first steps and to know we are recovering with your support makes all the difference. We are incredibly grateful for the messages of support we've received and continue to receive from our friends, community and neighbours it really means the world to us right now.

If we take one thing away from this experience it is to be thankful for what you have, nobody was hurt and if not for the amazing effort of everyone who came to our aid on the night, the situation could have been a lot worse. Once again we'd like to thank the police, ambulance, fire bridge, our friends, the community, fife council and everyone else who has helped us since the fire.

We remain positive and thankful as we start down the road ahead.

We'll keep you updated.

**Khushi's Update**
Thank you for the continuing messages of love and support. They are really helping us to stay positive and motivated as we take the first steps towards recovering. We apologise again to our lovely neighbours for the ongoing disruption and our main priority remains to get the street reopened and normal traffic restored.

We are going to take a short break from our social media channels to focus on rebuilding the business as quickly as we can. We are still counting our blessings the incident wasn't worse so we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you again to the fire crews, police service, Fife council and everyone who helped us.

If you need to contact us please e-mail [email protected].

Thank you.

We are so thankful for the outpouring of love and offers of support we have received. We are still in shock, assessing the damage and working out the best way to recover from this.

Right now, we would like to apologise to our neighbours for any damage or disruption caused to their businesses and themselves and our first priority is getting the street reopened and vehicle and foot traffic restored.

We're staying positive and if we need help we will let you know.

We are devastated to confirm that around 6:00pm yesterday a fire broke out on a floor above Khushi's restaurant. We are incredibly thankful that no one was hurt but both the restaurant and the building itself have been severely damaged. Our sincerest thanks go out to the fire crews and emergency service personnel who bravely extinguished the fire and ensured everyone's safety during the incident.

We are humbled by the number of messages that we have received this morning from Dunfermline businesses, groups and individuals offering us help and support. We are so grateful to be part of a community that doesn't hesitate to come to the aid of others in times of need. You are amazing and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

As a result of this tragedy, Khushi's restaurant will be closed until further notice and we apologise to our guests for the cancellation of all upcoming bookings. We are already assessing the damage and working out the best way to move forwards. We will keep you updated on our progress via our social media channels.

In true Khushi's spirit we remain positive and we will do everything we can to be back serving our community in the shortest time frame possible.

Thank you,

Today marks seven years since the passing of the mother of Khushi's, Hamida Mohammed known to many as Mrs Khushi.

Although some years have passed and it feels like the world has changed a lot in the last few, the lessons of positivity, kindness and community she taught us have not dimmed and her ethos of compassion, forgiveness and love will burn bright for many years to come through the actions of her family and of Khushi's.

You taught us well. We will never forget.
