Today is our 11th birthday 🥳 and what better day to celebrate the best thing about Makars - our team ❤️

It’s thanks to each person who comes in every single day and cares about their job and about Makars that we are still around after 11 years !

Thank you to each legendary member of our team and thank you to each and everyone of you who walks through our doors to enjoy our signature combo of comfort food & friendly service 🥔

Burns Night 25th January - if you haven’t yet tried our haggis, this is your sign 👀

This year we’re also working closely with to give you the chance to try their Table Whisky 🥃

(Spoiler alert : it’s very good !)

Our haggis are made in house following our own special recipe and are both GF and nut-free ! Both ? Yes ! We have a meat and a plant based version, so really, what are you waiting for if you haven’t tried it yet ?

2025 has been a very busy year for Makars with one thing in mind : how can we improve on what we’re doing ?

As we celebrated our 10th birthday in April we looked back on our journey so far but also looked forward, at what we could keep on improving.

How can we make our food tastier, our menu more inclusive, our service more meaningful, and our values better for the world around us.

It is a journey with no end in sight, we believe that we can always improve and that is the spirit we’re taking into 2026.

That, and … more mash ! Always, more mash ! 🥔

During the festive period, we’ll be closed 24th, 25th, and 26th December ❄️

Back open as usual from the 27th ✨

There are no bookings left for the end of the year but we keep over half our space for walk-ins ☺️

Remember our ? We asked our Chief Makar John what his favourite places to visit in Edinburgh was, and here’s his answer :

My favourite place to visit in Edinburgh (possibly the World) is Edinburgh Castle on a winter afternoon about 2pm. I have been visiting our castle for 55 years and still in awe of its magnificence. From walking past William Wallace and Robert the Bruce guarding the entrance through the maze of courtyards and up to the national war memorial and the honours of Scotland. You feel the 1200 years of Scottish history.
 
The highlight for me personally is always St Margaret’s Chapel which has an energy that you can feel.
 
At this time of year, you can watch the Sun going down over Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns at 4pm. The best thing is that the Makars Mash Bar is a short hop, skip and a jump away for dinner.
 
It makes you grateful to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the worlds.
