It's heartbreaking to see this in the same week StirrUps have announced their closure. Every pound in your pocket gives you both a vote for the world you want to live in, and more power than any election you'll ever participate in.

☕️ Queues formed before 6am as Starbucks opened its new drive-thru at Pinvin Services today.

🎉 Coffee lovers turned out in force for iced drinks, giveaways and a first look inside the new store near Pershore.

Lots happening, and two things not happening, over the next few days at The Red Lion:

Thursday 9th, 8pm, our weekly open mic, hosted by Evoking Jones. All the kit is set up, so just plug & play, but no backing tracks please.

Friday 10th, our planned Morris dancing has unfortunately been postponed, but The Cat Davis Trio are back, with a superb evening of mix of Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Jazz and Post Modern Jukebox. 9pm start.

We obviously won't be showing the football on Saturday, which at least saves us the bother of making a poster. Do come along if you fancy spending your evening with a drink in quieter circumstances — open until midnight.

Sunday is the big party to celebrate Chantell's time with us, sort of 2:30pm-ish onwards, with the usual Sunday afternoon music, this time from fantastic friends of the pub, Wattle & Riff. Stripped-down, emotional and groove-driven; think Back Woods Blues meets Outback ruggedness. They'll be on from 4pm.

Cheers!

Any Morris sides available for an hour on Weds 22nd July, around 11:30am? It's to help an Evesham care home celebrate a deserved award —you will of course be fed and watered, and if you happened to pop to the pub afterwards there might even be some ale going spare 🤔

Appreciate it's difficult midweek, hence the mass appeal!

Let us know, or tag a side who might help — [email protected]

Thanks!

There's more chance of Tom wearing a football shirt and drinking lager than the pub staying open until 5am on Sunday night. And while the former may have happened, the latter definitely won't. Usual 11pm close - sleep well!

It's Chantell's last shift at The Red Lion this evening (Saturday 4th July), we're sad to say. Pop in if you like — but don't be a difficult customer 😂

We're having a proper party next Sunday, 12th July, from mid-afternoon, with the usual music from 4pm, and some food very generously provided from The Spud Man next door. Do come along to wish her the very best in the next stage in her career: Chantell, you will be sorely missed by us all.

Tonight, Thursday 2nd July, our weekly open mic takes place at The Red Lion, with Chessi O'Dowd in charge of proceedings. 8pm start — full kit set up and ready for you to plug in to; no backing tracks please.

Friday 3rd, 9pm, Sean Jeffrey is an indie musician who creates songs with guitars and synths, and writes thought-provoking lyrics with heart.

And on Sunday 5th at 4pm, Dave Onions, stalwart of the local music scene, returns for an afternoon of rootsy blues with his distinctive percussive guitar style and original music.

Live blues-rock from Taxi For Jesus, Saturday 25th July, 7pm, at Wallace House, Evesham.

Four past members of The Trevor Burton Band, Maz Mitrenko (Lead Guitar and Vocals), Stuart Ford (Lead Guitar), Pez Connor (Bass), Bill Jefferson (drums), bring a wealth of musical experience to create this superb act.

They'll be supported by the Bretforton-based genre-blending band, Addiction, mixing styles from folk, pop, and blues for wide, universal appeal.

Tickets: £10 on the door, from the pub, or online: https://redlionevesham.co.uk/event/taxi-for-jesus/

A simply exceptional weekend of music coming up in Evesham — we're bringing five acts to the town, across three nights.

— Friday 26th June, 9pm at The Red Lion —
The Neirin Duo. Drew and Marie are great friends of the pub (and also to many people in Evesham), and they're bringing their funky, soulful, blues sound for a very cool evening of superb music.

— Saturday 27th June, 7pm at Wallace House —
We begin with Jessica Law & The Outlaws who "would probably get laughed off the X-Factor for not sounding exactly the same as everybody else" (Nightshift Magazine) and that on its own is good enough for us. They're an alternative folk band specialising in witty, dramatic original songs with a strong storytelling element.

Then we welcome Chris Dent, of Albi & The Wolves, on a solo tour from New Zealand. Winner of Best Folk Artist at the New Zealand Folk Awards, Chris brings high-energy folk mixed with intimate and reflective moments to create rich acoustic textures and emotionally charged performances.

Absolutely a night not to miss. Tickets are £10, on the door or in advance from https://redlionevesham.co.uk/event/chris-dent-albi-the-wolves/ (or pop into the pub).

— Sunday 28th June, 4pm at The Red Lion —
To round off the weekend, we present James Slater, a consummate and deservedly-respected artist. He plays genres you might not even have heard of, from contemporary folk, alt-country, swampy blues, to red dirt. You'll have to ask him about it.

He'll be followed by more great friends of the pub, Guy & Cathy Mansfield Smith. Guy's lilting burr, cleverly-crafted lyrics, and intricate guitar and mandolin playing are the perfect compliment to Cathy's superb bass skills.

The temperatures are dropping, but the music is certainly heating up... see you over the weekend.
