It’s exterior season.. (or not in the uk)

Don’t expect perfection 1st time, the scrim is very fine so it’s easy to build a couple of thin layers of filler over the top with minimal drying times

Now I’m not a magician but I’ve found a decent formula to deal with deep cracks in the surface,

Yes I know rock solid is an ‘exterior product’ but I like to break the rules.. If it works it works right?

In short, rake out the crack, hoover to remove debris.

Add peel stop or Gardz by Zinsser to seal the crack,

Apply the rock solid filler by toupret after an hour making sure to not leave any on the surface… This will shrink back slightly, Apply the glass fibre tape and stick it with peel stop..

The tape will be fully stuck after an hour but the filler will shrink back so I leave this to dry over night..

We will look at the next steps tomorrow

Proper prep of the surfaces..

Personally I de-nib first.

It gives a uniform surface to prime onto, removes any ‘snots’ & high spots.

This plastering is actually one of the best I’ve come across in a long time.

180 grit is usually good for it.

I tend to get higher end jobs due to the level of service I provide..

That includes how I treat someones property.

Some call it overkill.
Some call it attention to detail,

Lets say if I go and quote and explain the floor protection I use

Or I go and quote and say ill be chucking down dirty dust sheets..

Fresh ❄️

I did this space about 7 years ago (not the built ins)

There was a few hair line cracks, general family wear & tear.

I machine sanded everything (I must have used a lambs wool sleeve back then 😬.

There was some staining from a leak in the bathroom above too.

I giave the space 3 coats of cleanable matt in pure brilliant white by Johnstone's Trade Paints , some bits went back bare so 1st coat was like a mist coat.

Prepped all the wood and finished in
JUNO Paints UK Aqualac satin (its sexy!!)

The built ins were rough so they got a heavy sand (took them off to do back edges and frames,
Finished in Johnstones aquaguard satin.

Finally a weekend off to chill 🤙

A Deeper Dive into the products!

Emperor Paint

With a higher volume of solids in the tub, you get more paint left on the surface for your money.. you should never need more then 2 coats!

All products are totally breathable & suitable for all masonry surfaces such as,
Silicone, lime, normal render.

Make sure you use the whole system for a long lasting finish..
Watch out for the video on how the hydrophobic properties work.. you dont wanna miss that 👀

How to split colours!

Im using the pink tape for this one as its delicate, you can apply the tape whilst the paint is still 'damp'.. not soaking wet..

Finish the top half,
Set your lines, set your tape edge on the line..

Im not as brave (or as good as) (go check out his video.. (its better then mine 🤣)
So I like to seal the edge of the tape to stop any bleeding.
Finish the bottom half, have a cuppa T then pull the tape

Do you let the customer supply the paint?

As a rule I supply all the materials needed to complete the job,

This means I can guarantee my work, sort out any issues with my suppliers should something arise, know how many coats the surface needs which inturn allows me to dictste how long the job will take.

On the rare occasion I can't get the colour matched or an unfamiliar product is needed to carry on from one space to another, I add clauses to my quote.

Some of the issues that can crop up are.

More coats needed
Special primers required
Flashing/grinning of product once dry over usual fillers

Can you name any more?

This can make the job run over time and unless you have water tight T's & C's..
It's an akward conversation for more money due to more labour time.
The supplied paint might not be correct for the area, it might fade quickly and look crap so when their mate asks
'Who did your painting?' This makes you look bad..

Also with me supplying professional trade products you will get a far superior longer lasting finish then a cheap DIY special..

Its a basic bit of kit...
Ask your decorator if they use one.. If not... 🚩.

I spend Thousands on kit to give you the best finish, make my job easier and faster which allows me to fit more jobs into a year.. Sander pays for its self over and over each year..

Another new build fail..

Cheap and fast work leaves a poor finish,

This is a simple fix if you know what you are doing,

For larger gaps Id use expanding foam but these were not to bad.

Highly requested video!

New builds seem to always have this issue of the tape failing,
This method can be used for ceiling & wall joints and its a fail safe way to make sure no cracks come back through,

You can also use fill flex by Toupret UK but I like to take up the gap so its flush ready for the scrim tape which I find the glass fiber tape works best

Its gotta get worse b4 it gets better,

The paint is correct but its been put on with a broom as usual so ultimately the 'dry wall' plasterboard is going to get abit chewed up.
Dont worry, sand it back, prime it and crack on
