☀️ Celebrating the Summer Solstice at The Outback 🌿

Today marks the longest day of the year — a chance to pause and appreciate the garden at its fullest.

At The Outback Community Kitchen and Garden, summer brings colour, growth and plenty of life. Flowers are blooming, fruit and vegetables are taking shape, pollinators are busy, and every corner of the garden offers something new to notice.

The Summer Solstice is a lovely reminder of the wellbeing we can find in nature — whether that’s through gardening, sharing food, watching wildlife or simply sitting quietly in the sunshine.

Are you celebrating the solstice? Tell us your plans 🌻

A huge thank you to the team from BAM Construction who joined us at the Outback Community Garden last week for a corporate volunteering session! 🌱

The team worked incredibly hard to w**d and clear the entrance to the garden, helping us keep the space looking its best for our volunteers and visitors. Their support has made a real difference and is greatly appreciated.

BAM UK & Ireland Thank you for giving your time and energy to support our community garden! 💚

Here's a little dose of nature 🪻🌼🌺

Seeing and being in nature is crucial for human health. Studies show that even 15 to 20 minutes a day can regulate stress hormones, lower blood pressure, and improve mood. Whether through a window or outside, nature promotes psychological restoration, cognitive focus, and overall well-being.

This World Bee Day 🐝, we’re celebrating Park Ward Pollinators at The Outback Garden 🐝🌼

Park Ward Pollinators is our local community project, where our dedicated pollinators come together to care for our community beehives, share skills, and help look after the habitat for our bees and other wildlife.

It’s a brilliant example of community in action, helping protect pollinators while bringing people together around shared skills, learning and care for nature.

And as a sweet bonus, we also produce and sell our own local honey 🍯

A big thank you to everyone involved in helping our bees — and our garden — thrive.

We’re delighted to announce that planning is now underway for the Calderdale Festival of Food, and we’d love local businesses to be part of it 🍎

Taking place from 7–20 September, the Festival is a two-week celebration of Calderdale’s fantastic food and drink scene, encouraging people from across the borough and beyond to discover and support local producers, cafés, restaurants, bars and venues.

We’re inviting Calderdale-based food producers and food & drink venues to get involved by:

Hosting a food-related event or activity during the Festival

Creating a special Festival menu using locally sourced ingredients

Businesses taking part will be promoted as part of the wider Festival marketing campaign and will also receive branded digital assets to support their own promotion.

Find out more here by heading to Calderdale Festival of Food | Visit Calderdale

To take part, please complete the registration form by Friday 12 June.
