We have some competition winners for our design a limited edition contest to celebrate our first birthday on High Street.
Our winning adult entry is Sticky Toffee Pudding. Why did I choose it... well I narrowed the entries down to a shortlist of 5 or 6 flavours then ran them past the team. This was the the option that had every single member of the team excited. And I figure if the team are excited by it, then our customers will be too!
I did modify the concept slightly. The original idea was for it to be an enrobed square piece rather than a moulded one. But I thought making it in a cup shaped mould would make it look like an individual sticky toffee pudding.
So we have a layer of caramel sauce and a layer of sticky toffee pudding milk chocolate ganache, all in a milk chocolate shell, and decorated with golden lustre dust in an attempt to represent custard. Having tried a reject piece I can confirm these really are very nice indeed!
Our winning child entry is Apple and Peanut. Why did I choose it... well I liked the contrast in flavour and texture that would be achieved by a fruity pate de fruit layer and a nutty praline layer. And it introduced me to a flavour combination that I hadn't come across before. I though apple and peanut sounded a bit odd when the entry came in, but when I googled it I found that dipping slices of apple in peanut butter is a thing. A quick taste test showed that it worked. Who'd have thought it.... well apparently our winner did!
I did modify the concept slightly. The original idea was for it to be a milk chocolate, but I thought a sweet dark would work better, plus with a praline and a pate de fruit in the piece as well it meant it would be be vegan if dark. Plus our victorious adult entry was a milk chocolate and I wanted one milk winner and one dark one.
So we have an apple pate de fruit layer and a peanut and dark chocolate praline layer. All enrobed in a 55% dark chocolate, and decorated with roasted peanut.
Both flavours are made, but probably won't be in the fridge until the end of the week due to the hot weather. They are available online now in Custom boxes, but won't be shipped yet for the same reason.
