We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has commented on our recent posts about The Anchorage. We've spent a lot of time reading through all your comments, memories and ideas, and they've genuinely meant a lot to us.
For those who don't know us, I'm Gillian Roszkowska and my husband Neil Hawley and I are currently in the final stages of buying The Anchorage from David and Anthony. It's taking a little longer than we'd hoped, but we're keeping everything crossed that we'll be able to call it ours very soon.
Coming home to Anglesey means so much to me. I went to Llanfawr Primary School, Holyhead County School and Bangor University, and my parents ran Cae Braenar Siop from 1969 until 1994. Although I've been away for many years, Anglesey has always felt like home.
I would also like to say how incredibly grateful we are to David and Anthony. Throughout this whole process they have been kind, patient and hugely supportive. We know how much hard work their family has put into The Anchorage over the years, and we feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to continue its story. We certainly don't take that responsibility lightly.
One thing we've realised very quickly is how many people care deeply about The Anchorage. The memories people have shared have been wonderful to read, and we've been making notes of all the suggestions too.
Neil and I are both teachers, so we're definitely not arriving with deep pockets! We'll have to take things one step at a time, doing what we can when we can, but we're excited about the journey ahead.
To begin with, our main focus will be getting the rooms ready, looking after our guests, providing a simple but lovely breakfast for those staying with us, serving good coffee and cakes, and creating welcoming bar and lounge spaces for both locals and visitors to enjoy.
We're sure we'll have plenty to learn along the way and there will no doubt be challenges, but we really want to build something the community can be proud of. We may not be able to do everything straight away, but we'll always listen and we'll always try our best.
Thank you again for all your support. Please keep sharing your ideas and memories. We love reading them and they are helping us shape our plans for the future.
Hopefully we'll see many of you in person before too long.
Gill & Neil
