As we slowly come to the end of our throwback Thursdays, what fitting way to end with our own Evander

The Big E is the captain and backbone of the Hagg Bar A team, and anyone who know Evander knows that he is one of the nicest guys you could ever have the pleasure of meeting!

Having picked up the darts from a young pup you won’t find another man whose as dedicated to the sport as he is, travelling up and down the country, across the water to Ireland and even to the sunny countries he’s a well travelled man when it comes to darts 🥳

He’s won so much in his darting career within and outwith the league, we could honestly write a book! From the PDDL 1st division titles to winning major tournaments, most recently the Oban open, I think at this point it would probably be better off asking what he’s not won 🤷🏻‍♀️ you can also always find him at the Scottish Open every year for one closer to home, every single year he does us proud and keeps bettering himself from the last year 🥳

Evander is one of those guys who says it as it is, whether it’s compliments or constructive criticism he will be there on hand to help make you the best darts player you can be! We’ve seen this ourselves through our very own Dean Fitch and Paddy McShane who are both now out doing amazing things as well as still playing with Evander on Monday nights!

Evander himself has also qualified for the coveted Q School not once but twice! Q School, being the route players can take to play in major tournaments with the big names everyone knows (and get on the telly).

As ever, wherever Evander goes you can be sure that Kay will be there as well shouting on her boy! However, at Q school the crowd needs to be silent unless they are sitting at the tables, failure to do this meant that the player would be fined. A few of ours boys had made the trip down one year, as well as Kay and Big George and the men actually stood outside drawing straws on who would get to sign Big George in 😂😂 as we all know Kay can be quite vocal when it comes to darts 👀

From the WDF to Vault tournaments - Evander keeps himself busy and we could not be prouder of the player and man that he is! An excellent man to round off our throwback Thursdays which we hope you’ve enjoyed as much as we have sharing a little bit more about our league with you all 🎯

These games are ticket only with some still remaining for sale! Tickets at £5 and that gets you your pint, pew and pakora at half time 💃🏻

Please be in the pub for 9:30pm and present your ticket before we close the doors and get the party started with our one and only Silly Billy who will be there to get us all riled up before the game 💪🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Let’s hope we go and make it a good one although I think majority of us will just take scoring at this point 👀😂

To round off our board members throwback, today we are going to throw it back to the landlady of the Hagg 💃🏻

Kay has been the publican of the Hagg Bar for many years (frankly far too many count). In her time she has greeted people from all walks of life into her pub, and has seen many darts players come and go.

It’s no word of a lie that Mrs Shand has the Hagg teams whipped into shape. In many ways the darts men are her children, as on a Monday night you’ll often hear ‘maw’ being shouted and Kay will come running. She has been there for the likes of both Hagg teams qualifying for major tournaments such as the Punch tournament from many moons ago in Blackpool, to being the treasurer of the Paisley and District Darts League. If you ever need a woman who knows her darts it’s Kay.

From bus runs being organised for friendlies to organising weekends for major tournaments, Kay has made many friends over the years within the darts community. People organising events like Derek Weston, to those like Scott Mitchell (who you can see constantly marking on the PDC) the way Kay operates is the same across the board - please tell her when her boys are playing.

Kays kindness not only extends to her own men within the pub but to all players who take part. From offering words of encouragement to lending an ear and taking suggestions on how to improve the league seriously.

Kay, by her own right, has a major claim to fame when it comes to darts. Never mind hosting the likes of Colin Lloyd we are going back to a night when she played her very own Evander Stevenson. Things were tight as it came to the final leg, Evander on double 4 and Kay trailing and being on 132. An impossible feat you might say with how Evander was throwing. You can picture the scene of how tense it was and how difficult it is to take out a 132, as our Kay had to ask Evander how to finish it, “Bull, bull, double 16” was the answer. As Kay stepped up to the oche, one dart went in the bull, followed by another. The final dart precisely pinning the double 16 to win the game and leaving Evander shocked and stunned. The only way to celebrate this is surely by a victory lap around the bar? Which is exactly what Kay done!

There are so many stories to tell about Kay and being involved in the darts, and we all know she will be there for many more! With the up and coming youth talent we all see constantly within darts, it’s safe to say that any one of them who meets Kay is in good hands to show them the correct etiquette and mindset to be a phenomenal darts player 🎯
