(217)

The Cheese Yard was born in November 2013. We offer a point of difference from the supermarkets, offering great service, selling locally sourced, artisan products and a welcoming friendly environment in which you can relax and enjoy wonderful food and wine with friends and family. We strive to work with small producers such as Claire Burt in Ollerton, Cheshire, our local cheese maker of Burt's Blu

e and Drunken Burt. We also host regular cheese and wine tasting evenings which are a fantastic way to sample new produce with the opportunity of pairing 4 different wines with 8 different cheeses. Private events can also be arranged on request. If you are looking for a unique gift idea for foodies - ask us about our bespoke hampers (and gift vouchers). Brides and events are also catered for with our wedding / celebration cheese towers. With our experience and knowledge we can help you choose the perfect artisan cheeses and work to your tastes and within your budget. We are a very friendly team so feel free to get in touch for a chat we are always happy to advise!

08 · The Alps

The final mountains. The Alps. The hardest week of the Tour — and, for our money, the greatest cheese country of all.

Two cheeses for the grand finale:

🧀 **Beaufort** — the "prince of Gruyères," rich and fruity, made high in the summer pastures.
🧀 **Saint-Marcellin** — tiny, soft and spoonably ripe.

This is a board worth climbing for. Come and build yours with us.

07 · The Jura

Into the Jura today, and the high pastures of Comté country — home to some of the finest mountain cheeses in France.

Two to savour slowly:

🧀 **Comté** — the king of French mountain cheese. Ask us about the age; a young Comté and an aged one are two different experiences.
🧀 **Morbier** — known for its line of ash through the middle; fruity, supple, gentle.

And one to look forward to: **Mont d'Or**, the spoonable winter classic, returns to us in the autumn. Worth the wait.

The Last Cheese & Wine was epic and so tasty. So i decided to get a new date for August.
Join me on Friday 7th August 6pm for a taste of superb cheeses and wines in our little Knutsford shop.

As always i'll do my best to get the cheeses all new so new flavours can be discovered.

06 · The Vosges

Today the Tour tackles the Vosges, finishing high on the slopes of Le Markstein. One cheese rules these mountains.

🧀 **Munster** — soft, orange-rinded and gloriously aromatic, with a flavour far mellower than its perfume suggests. Melt it, spread it, or simply let it ripen and enjoy. Bold and brilliant.

Ask at the counter and we'll cut you a piece at its peak.

The weekend is starting to fill up nicely, and if you've been thinking about visiting us, this is your gentle nudge to get something in the diary.
Whether it's joining us for:
🧀 Afternoon Cheese
🫕 Summer Raclette
🍇 A cheeseboard and a glass of wine
☕ Coffee and cake with friends
…we'd absolutely love to welcome you.

05 · Burgundy

The race rolls through Burgundy this week — and where there's great wine, there's great cheese to match it.

Two to pour a glass alongside:

🧀 **Époisses** — washed in Marc de Bourgogne until it's golden, sticky and gloriously pungent. A showstopper.
🧀 **Délice de Bourgogne** — a triple-cream so buttery it's almost dessert.

Tell us your wine and we'll find your match. That's what we're here for.

04 · Cantal & the Auvergne — Bastille Day

It's the *quatorze juillet* — Bastille Day — and the Tour climbs into the volcanic mountains of the Cantal, the beating heart of French cheese. There's nowhere better to celebrate. Allez!

Six from the Auvergne to build the ultimate board:

🧀 **Cantal** — one of France's oldest cheeses: pressed, buttery, tangier with age.
🧀 **Saint-Nectaire** — earthy and mushroomy, irresistibly soft.
🧀 **Bleu d'Auvergne** — creamy and bold, a proper blue.
🧀 **Fourme d'Ambert** — gentler and fudgy, the blue for people who think they don't like blue.

Bonne fête to all our French friends. Come and raise a (cheese) toast with us today.

03 · Périgord & Dordogne

Today the Tour follows the Dordogne river through Périgord — a corner of France famous for walnuts, truffles and very good cheese.

Two beauties to seek out:

🧀 **Cabécou** — little discs of goat's cheese, bright, fresh and moreish.
🧀 **Tomme de Noix** — a cheese washed in walnut liqueur, gentle and quietly unusual. A real discovery.

Pop in this weekend and let us introduce you.
