Jamaica Inn Ghost Hunting Investigation Page We are the Jamaica Inn paranormal team, who exclusively run public and private paranormal nights at the world-famous Jamaica Inn, Cornwall.

Jamaica Inn, Cornwall's legendary coaching house, immortalised in Daphne du Maurier's novel of the same name, has stood high on Bodmin Moor for over four centuries. We're still referred to by historians as Cornwall's most famous smuggling inn. These days we do welcome the more salubrious guest ... and the odd ghost! Jamaica Inn was built around 1750/60 as a dwelling house for John Broad. By 1778,

extensions were added and it became the Jamaica inn where travellers made the journey between Launceston and Bodmin. Remote and isolated, it quickly became the ideal place to stop for smugglers transporting illegal goods into Devon and onwards. Jamaica Inn now is home to one of the finest and most extensive collections of smuggling artefacts in the UK at our Smugglers museum. In 1930, Jamaica Inn was visited by author Daphne du Maurier, who was inspired to write her most famous novel by the atmosphere and history of the inn. Fans of the novel now travel from all over the world to visit the Inn and our fantastic Daphne du Maurier museum. With all of this history, it comes as no surprise that Jamaica Inn is considered one of the most haunted buildings in Cornwall. In fact, when the TV show Most Haunted featured Jamaica Inn, they said that it was one of the spookiest programmes that they have ever recorded. Guests have reported seeing and hearing things that cannot be explained, and now many stay with us with the hope of seeing something for themselves! Spend the night in one of our famous haunted hotel rooms, enjoy our superb food for lunch or simply stop for real ale with your dog by our open fire!

Karin and Lisa recently had the pleasure of meeting Amy and Jarrad, better known as the Army's Crypt Couple, at the Parameet Convention.
It was great to catch up with two of the nicest people in the paranormal.

We thought we would share their fantastic investigation at the Jamaica Inn, filmed during 2023/24.

One of the most intriguing moments captured on video was the sound of a crying baby, a phenomenon reported at the inn for many years.
Following the incident, we thoroughly checked the entire building and the courtyard area outside.
No babies were found.

The Jamaica Inn continues to be one of the most fascinating locations we have worked with, with reports and experiences stretching back 115 years.

It is always wonderful to come across a historic map, and this one from 1830 clearly shows that the Jamaica Inn was already an established and well-known landmark on Bodmin Moor.

By 1830, Elizabeth Broad, the widow of Captain John Broad's youngest son, had given up her tenancy of the inn and sadly passed away shortly afterwards. Her death marked the end of an extraordinary fifty-four-year association between the Broad family and the Jamaica Inn.

For many years, the name Broad remained largely forgotten, overshadowed by the legends, stories, and literary fame that would later attach to the Inn.

Yet without Captain John Broad, none of it would exist. There would be no Jamaica Inn as we know it today, no famous novel by Daphne du Maurier, no film adaptations, and no television dramas that have introduced this remarkable place to millions.

That is why we are determined to ensure that Captain John Broad receives the recognition he deserves. His vision, determination, and legacy laid the foundations for one of Britain's most iconic coaching inns and one of Cornwall's most celebrated historic buildings.

So, thank you, Captain Broad, on the 250th anniversary of your remarkable legacy. Your name deserves to stand proudly alongside those who helped make the Jamaica Inn famous.
