Morito is a tapas & mezze bar next door to sister restaurant Moro on Exmouth Market. Bookings are taken for lunch but dinner is first come, first served. If we’re full when you arrive, we’ll take a phone number and give you a ring as soon as we have room. With such a small space to work with, we generally ask that 2’s sit at the bar, with the tables used for larger groups.

Grilled courgette salad, pine nuts & sumac. This salad is a Morito summer classic but this time with the addition of a deep-fried courgette flower! We often use the sweet pale courgettes found throughout the Eastern Medierranean which we salt, lightly grill then dress with a fresh lemon, olive oil and generous sprinkling of sumac, pine nuts and mint. The crunchy warm fried courgette flower is a perfect and welcome contrast to the tart salad and the colours are fab.

Piri piri squid pinchito, shallot, parlsey & lemon. We were introduced to the wonders of piri piri early days when Sam and I were working at The Eagle Pub round the corner from Moro on Farringdon Road. Head chef David Eyre grew up in Mozambique, a Portuguese colony and considered the birthplace of piri piri. The early C15th explorers discovered the birds eye chillis and paired them with Portuguese cooking methods and ingredients to create the iconic sauce. Here we douse the squid liberally with the piri piri before and after charring over charcoal. It is hot, it is firely and so addictive! Also wonderful with prawns and chicken. Time to get the bbq out!

Our home is Exmouth Market.

We opened our doors here in 2010, and over the years we’ve watched the market grow into the close-knit, creative and endlessly supportive neighbourhood it is today. It’s a place we’re proud to be part of, and one we’re grateful to call home.

Wonderful in every season, but we think it’s at its very best in summer.
