Nothing beats the feel of a “proper” book. But sometimes the sun is in your eyes. And sometimes you need to get your steps in or walk the dog, and only an audiobook will do. And waiting for months for your Libby reservation is no fun. And giving money to that big company we all love to hate is just wrong. So have come to the rescue with a brand new audiobook service that supports indies! Woohoo.

I just finished listening to Land by Maggie O’Farrell because I hurt my wrist installing The Dalek in the shop and the hardback was just too heavy (🤪). High recommend btw.

It’s our 2nd birthday. 2 years of being on The Roman. 2 years of selling books, recommending books, talking nothing but books. And 2 years of building our community both inside the shop and outside, the team and customers and those people that just wave as they walk past each day. 2 years of joy.

July is but two short days away, and in the brief respite from the heat, we’re prepping for July’s feature table of your summer’s hottest books. As always our main book club choice is picked from our focus tables and is most usually something we’ve NOT yet read but are itching to start. What could be better than joining another 40-odd bookish folks over a cheeky Aperol Spritz and some chat on a Thursday night in July.

Apart from a holiday to Italy?

Every time you order a book on Am%z*n, a bookseller, somewhere, falls down dead. If you believe in your high street; if you believe in your community; if you believe, clap your hands. Don’t let indie bookshops die.

Email us, come into the shop, or order via our website and your book will (95%* of the time) arrive the following day.

*this is a made up statistic as I don’t have the ability to calculate the exact percentage. But so you understand, we place orders most days at 5pm for next day delivery to the shop, so unless it’s a weekend (we don’t get deliveries on a weekend and we’re closed on a Monday), you’re in with a pretty solid chance of it arriving the following day.
