Some people leave a bigger mark than they realise.

Last year, Niamh joined us as our first part-time team member.

What followed were countless coffees served, conversations shared and friendships formed. Many of you came to know her for the warmth and kindness she brought to the cafe each day.

While her chapter with us has come to an end, her contribution to this space and community remains.

One week after our first anniversary, we’re taking a moment to look back at where it all began.

This photo was taken just after the renovation of the cafe was complete. Its a blank canvas, a dream and a deep belief that coffee could be more than just a daily drink.

Meet Raymond, the founder behind our café. Originally from Hong Kong, his passion for specialty coffee started with curiosity: where coffee comes from, how it’s brewed and how every bean carries its own unique story. His vision was simple, that is to create a space where people could slow down, learn, explore and experience coffee beyond the cup.

Over the past year, we’ve shared countless conversations about origins, processing methods, brewing techniques and tasting notes. Together, we’ve explored the complexity and craft hidden within every coffee bean.

As we begin our journey into the second year, we’re grateful for everyone who has been part of this story. And we’re just getting started.

One of our milestones this year is simple: create a space where coffee could bring people together through curiosity, learning and conversation.

Earlier this month, we hosted our very first community cupping event and we are incredibly grateful for how it turned out. Around the table were people experiencing specialty coffee for the first time, alongside coffee professionals, producers and those working closely with local farmer collectives. Different backgrounds, different perspectives, but all connected by a shared curiosity for coffee.

What made the evening special wasn’t just the coffees we tasted but it was the questions asked, stories shared and connections formed over every cup.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our first cupping night such a success! Seeing the room filled with engagement, laughter, learning and thoughtful discussion reminded us exactly why we wanted to do this.

And we’re excited to do it all again!

There is something quietly powerful about a hand drip.

Long before machines defined convenience, coffee was an intentional ritual that involves balancing water, temperature and time among other factors. The hand drip (or pour-over) carries that legacy forward, rooted in early 20th century brewing traditions and refined into what we now celebrate as specialty coffee craftsmanship.

Every pour is a decision. From controlling temperature and water flow to highlighting the unique character of each origin, hand drip brewing is where the true expression of the coffee reveals itself.

It’s a reminder of why we started Aroma Lab Coffee. Our every bean carries a story of where it’s grown, how it’s nurtured and the care taken in every step of its journey. The aroma, the flavour, the texture, they’re all a reflection of that story.

Our philosophy is simple: to celebrate the craft, share knowledge and connect our community through coffee. Every cup for us is an experience, not just a drink.

New year often reminded us all of new beginnings made out of meaningful reflections from the past year. For us, this feels like the perfect time to look back on how our stories are crafted. 🕰️

We started with just a small outdoor coffee stand, a few cups brewed with hope and conversations shared under open skies. What we didn’t know then was how much support our community would pour into us.

From familiar faces who came back day after day, to new friends travelling from overseas just to visit us. Every cup carried a story.

Now, standing inside our very own store, we are reminded that this journey was never just about coffee. It’s about the bonds we’ve built, the stories we’ve heard, and the moments shared over a cup.

Today, we’re grateful to be a place beyond coffee, a space where people learn about coffee, exchange thoughts and gather with the people they love.
