Throughout the summer months and the warmer weather, it’s important that we remind the public of the dangers of blue-green algae to both humans and pets ⚠️ .

Where blue-green algae is detected at council-run sites, warning signage will be erected to warn visitors of its presence and advise that adults, children, and animals should avoid contact with the algae and the water, due to its harmful effects.

Even if there is no signage at a location, should the appearance of a water body concern you, when in doubt, stay out, and do not let pets swim in, play in or drink water that looks discoloured or has scum on the surface.

The public are also encouraged to report sightings of blue-green algae by downloading and using the using the Bloomin’ Algae App.
