Lyme traders victorious in battle to prevent external food and drink concessions.
In the face of a fierce backlash from local businesses, Lyme Regis Town Council has u-turned on its plan to allow mobile and static food and drink pitches on Marine Parade and in the gardens following a unanimous vote at a full council meeting this evening.

Representatives from a number of local businesses spoke in the public forum including Luke Taylor from Herbies, Sharon Baxter from the Slipway, Steve Postles from Deli Weli and Sam Hanbury from Baboo all expressing their dismay at the council's plan and arguing that the council should instead be doing everything it can to support existing local businesses in what for many is a challenging economic climate. Local resident Nigel Ball read out a poem in support of the traders.

Luke Taylor commented "It's great that we've been able to convince the council that their plans were potentially detrimental to local businesses and it's encouraging that they listened and in the end came to the right decision."

Sharon Baxter said "I'm delighted the council saw sense and I hope this is the start of a process of better communication with all."
