Two of our Alberts Are Missing!
National charity, the Fishermen’s Mission have reported that two of their Albert collecting boxes have been stolen in recent months. One just last week after a break-in at a fish and chip shop.
Port Officer for North Shields area, Peter Dade, said ‘It is really disappointing news for us and for our fish and chip shop supporters. Alberts are really important to our fundraising efforts. We have hundreds around the country. They are really distinct and very popular, particularly with fish and chip shops because we have such a natural bond. We normally raise about £100 each year from every Albert. Both Alberts were securely locked to the counters as well. Such a shame as so many people put their change in the box to help our fishermen and their families’.
Peter added ‘The Fishermen’s Mission doesn’t receive any government or national lottery funding, we totally rely on donations from our friends and supporters’. All this change popped into our Alberts, adds up to around £80k a year, vital gifts for us’.
The Fishermen’s Mission is the only national charity that works solely to help fishermen, both active and former, and their families. The charity, with 142 years of experience and expertise, has a strong reputation for providing support across all fishing communities.
