Newmarket Community Cinema's next screening is on Monday (18th May) when we are showing Made in Dagenham (15). Based on a true story, it is about the fight which women machinists at Ford's Essex car plant had when they asked for equal pay with men working at the factory.

They argued that using sewing machines to make the car seats was a skilled job, but Ford's management turned them away. So they went on strike, and not only won their battle but helped to bring about a change in the law which benefited thousands of working women throughout the country.

It stars Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins and Miranda Richardson.
