Right so here we go…
I’ve been anticipating writing this post for a few weeks, lying awake many nights going over it in my head, trying not to blow up at how the current financial situation is affecting people and businesses so negatively. It’s hard not to feel upset AF.
Island came about in December 2020, also a crazy time for everyone, somehow we felt it was a time of opportunity so we seized on this feeling and opened up. The journey has been far from easy, but we do like a challenge. We feel gratitude to our super loyal customers who come to see us regularly and for every single one of you who has stepped foot in our coffeeshop. However as the financial crisis has developed we have realised that we unfortunately must take a step backwards and close Island.
Having to make this decision has been extremely hard and I’ve felt very upset knowing we would have to let our incredible team of staff go. They truly are an amazing bunch of humans. Through this hardship and sadness our team of staff has been very supportive and understanding. All I can say is that I have such huge respect for them and wish them all the best in the future.
On the 29th of October at the end of the day we will be locking up and Island is sailing to the grave. My husband, John, and I often talk about potential new projects, coffee shops and restaurants, and we hope in the future we will be back with more. However, right now need to focus on our main business, Strong Adolfos.
Thank you to all of our loyal customers, we have had a few of you asking if we will be sticking around and I am so sorry that I could not talk openly about this then, but please know that it means the world to us that we mean so much to you.
If you too feel upset about us closing then there’s one thing you could do for us that would make us happy, go out and support our local indie coffee shops here in town. Newquay is such a rad place and this is a difficult time for all, any support you can afford to give our awesome town and businesses will be greatly appreciated by all.
In the meantime don’t forget we will stay open throughout October and we hope to see you.
