The Rugglestone Inn is a unique, un spoilt Dartmoor inn delightfully located in the picturesque village of Widecombe in the Moor. Originally a cottage the grade II listed building was converted to an inn back in 1832 and named after a local logan stone. It is surrounded by peaceful moorland, adjacent to a pretty stream and just a few minutes walk from the centre of the village. Inside, there is a

cosy bar with a wood burner and two further rooms, one of which has an open log fire, together creating a wonderful ‘home from home’ atmosphere. Outside is a large sheltered garden with picnic tables accessible via a small bridge over a delightful moorland stream and from where you can enjoy fabulous views. Children and dogs are welcome but we ask that dogs be kept on a lead. Our home cooked menu of locally sourced produce from suppliers such as Dartmoor Farmers Association, Gribbles Meat & Game, S & J Fisheries is extensive and offers a broad range for all tastes. Examples might include filled jacket potatoes from £4.75 and fresh fish and meat dishes from £10.50. Our bar is well stocked with real ales, farm cider and a comprehensive wine list. The real ales are served straight from the barrel and include different guest beers mainly from the southwest. Opening Hours

👋🍺 AN INTRODUCTION & WELCOME 🍺👋

There have been LOADS of new followers joining the page over the last few weeks, so I thought I’d better introduce myself properly again! 👋

My name is Luke, but you’re welcome to call me Grumpy! 🤬

This is my beautiful fiancée, Kelly - she has to feature here to keep all the cougars at bay! 🤣
She’s also the love of my life and is one of the few things that makes me NOT grumpy! ❤️

We have 5 beautiful (and fu***ng annoying) kids….yep, I know, I’d be much better off sat on my arse claiming benefits! 🙄🤣

I run a “proper” village pub in Gloucestershire, The Hog at Horsley 🍺

I took over The Hog during the first Covid lockdown and never looked back. Yep, I’m sure there’s something wrong with me too. 😅

Despite all the challenges over the last few years, 2025 was without doubt our hardest yet. Spending was down, costs were though the roof, and then…

THE NOVEMBER BUDGET! 🤯

When the budget was delivered, I was stood behind my bar, and totally missed it. But when I got home that night and dissected it, I lost my s**t. I posted a (slightly tipsy 🥴) rant on my pub page and went to bed. When the Good Lady Grump woke me up the next morning, it had gone viral! 📲💥

Over a million hits. 😱

Our fractured industry of independent venues and brewers normally just accept the bo****ks. We’re not in a position to do anything about it, so successive governments have treated us as a cash cow, demanding more and more with every budget. But this time was different. This time someone shouted a very loud and clear “F**K OFF”, and it clearly resonated. 🙌🖕🤬

And so The Grumpy Landlord was born (because I couldn’t keep swearing on the pub page! 😅)

KEY FACTS:

💔 The Left hate me, because I’m constantly slagging off this pathetic excuse for a government…and I even went on GBNews! 😱🤣

💔 The Right hate me because I’ve called Farage a frog-faced c**t, and, despite some recent policy suggestions being much aligned with my own thoughts, I don’t and won’t back him. 🐸🤷‍♂️

🤷‍♂️ I think all politicians are self-serving, lying wankers, and I refuse to support a single one of them!

Basically no one loves me but you guys! 🤣❤️

MORE KEY FACTS:

I swear a lot. 🤬

I’m grumpy a lot. 😠

But I care. A lot! ❤️

I care about pubs. I care about community. I care about saving THE GREAT BRITISH PUB! 🍺

Along with a group of like-minded publicans, brewers, researchers and industry stalwarts I co-founded the Independent Pub Alliance - IPA! 🙌

The IPA exists to represent the interests of independent pubs and brewers and ensure that, going forwards, we have a seat at the table. 🪑 That policy decisions are no longer made in the interests of just the big pubcos and breweries. 👨🏻‍💼 That we no longer see such insane disparity in how we are treated and how we are taxed! 💸

Together we are strong. 💪

And together we WILL get back to thriving as an industry, instead of just struggling to survive! ❤️🍺

So thanks for following me! 🙌 Thanks for sharing my rants and nonsense! 🙌 And please come join us at the IPA (it’s totally free!) if you haven’t already! 🙏

And since this post was so short (😅) please feel free to ask any other questions you have in the comments section! 👇👇👇
