Romanticise your lunch break, mon amour.

Step away from the sad desk sandwich. Ours is a jambon beurre done properly: ham we cure and press ourselves, butter whipped from Normandy crème fraîche, a little baguette baked that very morning. The whole of France, tucked between two crusts.

£8. Which is, and we did check, less than a meal at Pret.

So take it to the park, find a bench in the sun, and let lunch be the loveliest half hour of your day. Lunch, Tuesday to Friday.

Introducing the Jambon Beurre. Paris’s greatest contribution to lunch, and we don’t say that lightly.

This has been a labour of love. Pascal has been working hard in the kitchen making every element just right. The ham is cured from free-range pork raised at just down the road. The butter is churned with Normandy crème fraîche. The baguette is a smaller version of our own, baked here fresh.

Comme il faut. Tuesday to Friday lunchtimes. £8.

A little summer fling for the menu.

The moules are off for a while (mussels spawn when it warms up, so we like to wait until they’re at their best). In their place: Saucisse Frites. Toulouse or Merguez, you decide. A heap of golden frites, served with our choice of sauces alongside a glass of beer, wine or soft drink. Tuesday nights, all summer.

Most people don’t know we have a private dining room upstairs.

A table for eight, or twelve, or fourteen if everyone’s feeling friendly. Yours for the afternoon or the evening.

A menu chosen in advance. Someone looking after you from the first glass to the last. Candlelight, art on the walls, the perfect intimate setting.

For birthdays. Anniversaries. The promotion that took five years (finally). And the just-becauses, which are usually the best ones.

This is probably our signature Pompette dessert, because it’s never come off our menu, and I don’t think it ever will.

It’s boozy, creamy, crisp and molten all at once, inspired by a bakery called Boulangerie-Pâtisserie Materne in Robertsau, a suburb of Strasbourg where my father grew up.

The cherries are tart, sweet, and just a little bit wicked. Indulgent and elegant all at once. This recipe is in our book too, which you can grab in the restaurant or online. Link in bio.

Apéro time is something both sides of our families adore. It’s the time before dinner, when drinks are poured, and snacks are enjoyed. It’s when unwinding can commence and can even end up with some becoming slightly Pompette.

5pm. The best hour. Apéro Hour: Tuesday-Friday, 5-6pm. Drinks, charcuterie, small plates.
