So I know I said to pencil in next weekend but…

To be honest this week has been pretty manic which means I’m behind on the perpetual ‘to do’ list, next week is full of lots of kids stuff (x4) which means little time for potential baking plus have you seen the bloody forecast?! I mean it is Summer but does it have to be quite so hot all of the time? Enough now. The kitchen is practically unbearable when all of the ovens and hobs are going. I’m a lady of a certain age who only wants to get that hot and bothered on a comfy sun lounger with a good book, large mojito and a cabana boy on hand…

Also the heat means I’m very limited as to what can realistically tolerate being in the shed for too long without affecting quality.

I’m not going to do a rain dance but the weather looks to be turning a bit cooler the following week so we’ll reopen the kitchen and shed then.

As before, to avoid disappointment pre-orders are welcome, particularly for bread.

Please DM with any requests, the day you would like to collect and of course any allergies by Tuesday 21st.

Also remember to hydrate, slap
on that factor 50 and check in on your people working in kitchens and hospitality, we are not ok! 🤪🥵

Next week our Beau (an athlete, let’s be honest mainly built on cake scraps) is taking part in an endurance swim challenge as a member of Pembroke and District Amateur Swimming Club. Kids and adults will be swimming distances ranging from 1k to a challenging 10k in one session. This event is not just about pushing limits but also about raising awareness for water safety, especially for children in our beautiful Pembrokeshire community.

This year, all funds raised will go to Forever 11, a brilliant Pembrokeshire charity dedicated to promoting sea safety and educating local children in memory of Zac Thompson. Donations can make a real difference in supporting their work to keep children safer in the water - incredibly important particularly at this time of the year when many of us will be heading to the beach for fun and family time.

If you are able to sponsor him, any and all donations will be much appreciated! Please also like, comment, and share this post to help us reach more people and raise vital funds for this important cause. Thank you!

Phew. It’s all a bit much isn’t it? The kitchen is not particularly my happy place in this heat.

And, whilst the new ovens are in (still negotiating how one actually works), the hob was faulty so waiting on replacement to be delivered and then they will have to be swapped by the sparky which means more disruption in the kitchen and it’s not fun.

So, until both the kitchen (and myself) are in proper working order I’m on strike. 🥵 🤪

Ps. Pencil in weekend of July 17th for a Bake Shed day.

Happy First Anniversary to and .blain1!

What a privilege it was to be a part of your Wedding day last year.

A wonderful celebration with the most beautiful bride, a very dapper groom, great guests, fantastic entertainment, an amazing venue and I hear the food was pretty good too 😉.

Wishing you all the happiness.x

Plenty of stock in the Bake Shed and we have a few freshly baked Batards and Focaccia loaves available. DM to reserve anything. Will be open tomorrow but having Monday off, I’m so tired I’ve just nearly decapitated myself walking into the washing line! 🤪 ?

Morning - guess who’s coming back?!

The shed will be rolled back out next week with a (mostly) new menu.

We take great pride in our dishes - puds, cakes, bakes, and bread - ensuring they are always freshly made, or as we like to say, “yn ffres” ;).

However, one challenge of an artisan approach is that everything’s handmade, small batch, and that takes a dash of time.

Opening weekend, I underestimated bread demand and couldn’t anticipate that our Focaccia would fly off the shelves faster than we could make it and bake it which meant we simply couldn’t satisfy demand. :(

So, next weekend we’re offering a select number of pre-order slots just for Focaccia, with two fresh batches baked each day.

If you’d like to secure your Focaccia fix, please send me a direct message by 9 PM on Tuesday, the 19th, including Focaccia flavour, your preferred date, and whether you’d like the early or later batch. I’ll get back to as soon as is possible to confirm your order and time slot or, if we’re booked up let you know what else is available.

Not sure when you will be visiting but will quite possibly need Focaccia in your life? No worries, we will be baking some extra loaves for the shed because we know that not everybody is on social media, weekend plans can be hectic and you never know when the need for some delicious carbonation might strike. Frank (the shed for those of you who don’t know) will obviously also be full of our other tantalizing treats which you can peruse and purchase at your leisure.

I’m taking the start of the week off for maintenance (me, not the shed), to organise my baking schedule and sort extra packaging.

Hopefully see (and feed) some of you next weekend. x

I’ve just brought the Shed in.

Thank you so much to everybody who visited and took a little bit of Ffres Cook home over the last few days.

Also, to all of you who shared, posted and commented etc - that type of support can make a big difference to a small business so much appreciated.

Even though I’ve been feeding my lovely customers for years with cakes, desserts, food for family gatherings and celebratory occasions, I had no idea if a Bake Shed would actually work or if we would be left eating Focaccia pizza and cake every day for the foreseeable future!

Turns out I literally couldn’t get bread out of the oven fast enough (a few people didn’t even leave the drive before tucking in) and selling out of cookie bags gives people sad faces.

I’m very tired, but also so very grateful for all of the support shown.

That said, shall we do it all again in a few weeks time?

Next opening I’ll work out a system for pre-orders/reserving bakes. I’ve felt guilty every time I’ve had to apologise for running out of bread.

Different cakes, bakes and pots on the menu. I’m thinking Carrot Cake, Cinnamon Buns and Brownie bite dipping boxes? And of course the Focaccia. 🙄

If you’ve had something this weekend that you particularly enjoyed let me know if it should make an appearance next time.

Meanwhile I’m off to put the dishwasher on for approximately the 9th time today, sink into a glass of wine and eat something I haven’t had to cook!

Hopefully see you soon.x
