Our owner Charles Lowther and his family lovingly restored the George and Dragon in 2008 and it’s now as beloved by locals as it is by visitors to the area. In every way, our roots are embedded deep in the rich history of our surrounding landscape and we’re proud to rear, forage and grow the majority of the ingredients you’ll s

ee on our menus ourselves, on our family farms and within our kitchen gardens at nearby Askham Hall. Eat with us, stay the night - we have 10 bedrooms you can choose from… Each is different, individually designed with furniture and art from Charles’ family’s collection, but all have fabulous beds, lovely linens and en suite bathrooms.

Forget the silver service and the white tablecloths. Real satisfaction happens when you’re sitting with friends, the glass is full, and the plate in front of you looks like it was cooked by someone who puts care and effort into plating the dish. 🍴

This weekend, we’re firing up the stove. We’ve got sumptuous food made from local ingredients sourced straight from our own farms, lively drinks to wash it down, and vibes that are hard to beat. It’s honest, hearty pub food done right, no fuss, just flavour.

Strawberry season has officially arrived, and we’re celebrating it in style at the George and Dragon. 🍓

What makes us truly special? Our larder is stocked three times a week with homegrown fruits and vegetables delivered fresh from our neighbours at Askham Hall. It’s produce you simply won’t find in any other village pub in the Eden Valley.

Expect a proper heap of roast meat of your choosing, crispy roast potatoes, and Yorkshire puddings the size of saucers. We serve it all with tender veg and a generous pour of gravy.

Not keen on meat? No worries. We keep a selection of veggie and seafood options running alongside the main roasts.

Everything on your plate comes straight from local farms in the Eden Valley and the Lake District, plus the kitchen gardens at Askham Hall. It’s a flavour-packed meal made from ingredients that haven’t travelled far from free-range fields.
