YMCA Cornwall is an independent charity & part of the wider YMCA Federation. Our coffee shop is open daily from 8am-7pm.

We provide supported housing for young people aged 16–24 who are homeless or at risk. Affordable room hire is available from 8am-9pm.

Meet the amazing team behind YMCA Cornwall.

Staff Spotlight - Gregg Davies, Finance Manager.

Why did you want to join YMCA Cornwall? And what do you enjoy most?

Having worked for a number of private sector businesses, from international giants and software developers to utility companies, I wanted to work for an organisation that helps people rather than makes money from them.

The thing I enjoy most about working at YMCA Cornwall is that, because we are a small team, the role is varied and every day presents a new challenge.

What’s your role?

As Finance Manager, I oversee the finance function at YMCA Cornwall, from the day-to-day transactional side of things through to budgeting, forecasting and reporting.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your time here?

My biggest achievements at YMCA Cornwall so far have been securing the funding for two housing projects.

In my first year, I worked with a social lender to secure a loan that enabled us to complete the conversion of the Morris House flats.

More recently, I worked with CAF Bank to develop the business case that secured a mortgage to purchase the Cherrytree building from LiveWest.

Both projects will help provide safe and stable accommodation for young people in Cornwall.

Fun fact about you?

At 45 years old, I have never had a dental filling!

We’re looking for an experienced and inspiring leader to join YMCA Cornwall as our new Managing Director.

37.5 Hours per week
Salary Range: £60,000-£65,000 per annum, plus benefits
Location: Penzance, Cornwall

This is a unique opportunity to lead an organisation that supports young people aged 16–24 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

You’ll be responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and day-to-day management of the charity, working closely with our Board to ensure we continue delivering high-quality services and real impact across Cornwall.

Staff Spotlight - Helen Wilson-Prowse, Head of Operations.

Why did you want to join YMCA Cornwall? And what do you enjoy most?

I joined YMCA Cornwall because I wanted to be part of an organisation that genuinely changes lives.

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to grow with the charity, and what I enjoy most is working alongside such dedicated colleagues and seeing the positive impact our services have on individuals and communities.

Every day brings something different, and it's incredibly rewarding to know that the work we do really matters.

What's your role?

I'm the Head of Operations and a member of the Senior Management Team. My role involves overseeing a range of our services and supporting our teams to deliver the highest standards of support. I work closely with colleagues across the organisation to help ensure everything runs as it should do and we continue to develop and provide the best possible outcomes for the people we serve.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your time here?

There have been so many memorable moments over the years, but one of my proudest achievements has been spearheading campaigns that raised over £300,000 in just a couple of years. The funding has helped safeguard existing accommodation and build new homes for young people, ensuring that even more vulnerable young people have a safe place to call home. Being able to help turn a vision into something that will have a lasting impact on future generations is something I'll always be incredibly proud of.

Fun fact about you?
People in the local community where I live often jokingly call me "Mrs YMCA" because I'm so passionate about what we do and I'm always talking about the amazing work of YMCA Cornwall!
