This business no longer exists...

This business is now closed.
Thankyou for your support, custom and banter during 2019. It was fun but unfortunately it never made budget.
Really glad to have been able to help Perth Community Farms Zero Waste Shop in it's early days, they are now located at Mill Street (Perth) at what was Giraffe Cafe.
Follow them on facebook for more details. Currently they operate (all volunteers) on Fridays, Saturdays & Mondays (opening times are on facebook).

So we only have a few potatoes left, there are 3 carrots, some purple & some golden beetroots, courgettes (including a few very large ones) , tomatoes, basil in pots ready to grow and plant on, some purple kohlrabi, cooking apples, peppers and one other veg, those orange - almost rugby ball shaped ones, they might be some kind of squash, I'm not sure, I will ask...

Just over 2 hours to go before pop up shop closes. They have veg from the farm, dried goods and cleaning products (don't forget your containers), home baking, bamboo toothbrushes and more.
You have 2 hours left to make any purchases.

The café can be used for workshops and events outwith trading hours and by arrangement.

In other news, we are looking to get input on what kinds of dried foods might be popular in the area.
In time we might be able to chase this up for people and hopefully make this available on a monthly basis. It's early days and still in the planning stage so feedback on what may be popular should help build this idea

How To Recycle Bubble Wrap...Bubble wrap can be recycled through the same national drop-off collection programs that accept plastic bags. There are usually collection bins at the entrances of grocery stores and pharmacies.
Make sure to remove any labels, adhesives, nylon, or any other extra materials before you recycle the bubble wrap.

A lot of changes are afoot here at the café. It is likelier that I could update this page on a monthly basis rather than weekly.
We are aiming to go plastic free. Other than the obvious wooden + biodegradable cutlery, we have turned that lovely big fridge of ours into a cooperative larder.
This is a closed section of the shop and only available to cooperative members by arrangement.
One you have joined the cooperative, the idea is that you place your requests and we shall buy these in bulk and then distribute into the customers own containers.
Each customer supplies the café with their containers, these should be clearly marked with the members name and what the tubs preferred filling will be. bread bags are also a useful container. It all depends on what you order and how much. On arrival, our volunteers give up a few hours to come to the café and dish out members orders.
Once your order is weighed, you will receive notice that your order is ready for collection.
The first process of joining is either through sending the café a pm with your email and real name, this works quicker if you also have a facebook account.
You will be sent a list of preferred items. suggestion will be taken and when enough are reached on one product, that item is then added to the list.

So, yeah , First change … dryfoods from the wholeseller at community prices (assuming the customer provides suitable storage container per dispersal).

2nd change..
Well some of you may know that I am a keen recycler.
We will recycle many things. We recycle some of the things that charity shops or recycle depots don't including..
Batteries
Crisp packets (preferably cleaned + dry)
soft plastic - Stretchy or bendable, NO solid plastics,
a few toiletries (like toothpaste),
Our list also cover unusual like those plastic lids off pringles packs.
we will attempt to recycle many things.
Why not clean out your next bread wrapper and fill it with bits of plastic like food wrappers ( please remember to clean food off first)
The more little tasks we each do (like cleaning off contaminant food from wrappers), the sooner we can take some responsibility and pride in our recycling actions.

We are also looking forward to upcoming talks with Perth Community Farm .
Although the café will change a bit, the Community Hub aspect of it will always stay.
Pop by on the 18th August when we should be a step closer to operating a community food cooperative

ry 3 weeks

There was no update last week as we were prepping for the Open day at Perth Community Farm.
Thanx to those of you who were there and showed your support, it was great to see you. (A special thanx for the use of the barbeque)
This event went well despite the rain showers and it gave me great insight into the possibilities of doing outside catering in the future.
It also gave opportunity to try new burgers and vegan burgers (which both received good feedback).
This means that burgers are viable and back on the menu.
The Vegan burgers are called Bombay Bad Boy Burgers and they consist of ….
Spicy Oriental inspired vegan burger with mixed vegetables, coriander, chilli, lemon grass& lime leaf coated in black onion, sesame and cumin seeds with crunchy red lentil crumb.
These are also now a welcome part of the cafe menu
Speaking of Vegan… as I write this, a regular customer has just popped in and purchased the last of our vegan cupcakes. These should be back on either Tuesday or Wednesday (Thanx to Alison).
We still have issues with intermittent free wifi and XLN have assured me they are working on resolving this.
I am considering setting up a go fund me page to finance a replacement display fridge and a display freezer. This would mean I could cook meals fresh and freeze for people to take home and pop in the microwave or warm in a pot. I will take suggestions. Examples would be macaroni, lasagne, haggis neeps & tatties.
As much as I would love to cook meals, I currently have no way to display these or keep them fresh unless I make small batches. The bigger the batch, the more the saving for me and you.
I am amazed there hasn’t been as much memory sharing as I had hoped so if you know someone with memories of Craigie, ask them to dig out photos, pop in or even contact us via facebook.
Finally, remember this is a café for the community to all feedback will be considered and changes will be made to provide something we can all use and benefit from.
Did I mention we occasionally hire out the café for small meetings in the evening.

03/06/2019

We have an 'old school' tape recorder all lined up for people to pop in and share their Craigie memories. This facility may be extended to more than just Mondays.

Currently having issues with our wifi provider. The customer service is poor and there has been no free public wifi for many days.
Therefore, today we are looking into changing providers.
A slight ni**le with castle water as well which I also hope to resolve before close of trade today.
Other than that, the weather looks drier and more promising this week, with a refreshing breeze.

28/05/2019

The weather has been a bit changeable, with fakefest at the South Inch and the dig&play event at Perth Community Farm having its share of drizzly wetness. This didn't seem to dampen spirits (lol) and both events seemed popular.
The cafe is due to get rid of its oversized display fridge in the coming weeks, which should open up the full length noticeboard once again.
This area is for listing your community needs and wants so have a think.
We have had a few suggestions in the box which have been taken on board and some have been implemented including the occassional newspaper.
Our next goal will be to work towards getting a display fridge with a glass door, then we can offer daily pre-made filled rolls and muffins just ready to grab & go.
