Today we started cutting Winter Wheat at 13.5% moisture. Anyone that’s in the industry will know, that’s dry, especially for 8th July!
Last year it was 18th July.
10 years ago, you wouldn’t cut much wheat before August.
Is this the new normal following climate change?
It is quite scary to see it happening in front of your eyes.

The earliest ever start to Harvest at Moor Farm!🚜🌾
We first got the Combine out on 29th June to test the Winter Barley. Early yields are looking promising and the grain is dry. This heat wave has caused the crop to die off rather than ripen naturally, hence the early start. If not we could’ve hoped for an even greater yield. Fingers crossed the winter crops continue to yield ok. However, the spring planted crops have been hit harder by the dry spring.☀️
In other news, the drone pics clearly show how dry the countryside is looking. Keep your eyes open for any more suspected arson attempts in the area!🔥

Another quiet evening in Borough Fen… 🚒🔥

Our sincere thanks once again to Dogsthorpe Fire Service for their rapid response in extinguishing another fire close to land we farm. Although believed to be unrelated to Sunday night’s.

This time, it is believed that a caravan full of tyres was deliberately dumped and set alight in a lay-by on Gunthorpe Road, near the Barn Garden Centre.

We cannot stress enough how reckless and dangerous this kind of behaviour is, particularly during the current hot and dry conditions. It also wastes the valuable time and resources of our emergency services, who could be needed elsewhere. Fires like this can spread rapidly, threatening homes, businesses, farmland, crops and wildlife. Burning tyres also releases thick, toxic smoke and harmful pollutants into the air, posing a risk to public health and contaminating the surrounding environment. Once again, this incident had the potential to cause significant damage.

Fortunately, one of the Moor Farm Team spotted the fire just before bedtime. They investigated, immediately contacted the Police and Fire Service, and thanks to their quick actions, a much more serious incident was prevented.

Please continue to stay vigilant. If you notice any suspicious behaviour or see a fire, no matter how small, report it immediately. By looking out for one another, we can help protect our community and countryside.

This cannot go on!

Thank you for your continued support.

🚒 A huge thank you to Dogsthorpe Fire Service for their swift response last night after a number of deliberate fires were started across our fields and hedgerows between Peakirk and Glinton.

The fires were started in six different locations, making it clear this was a deliberate act. Sadly, we experienced similar incidents several times last summer, and this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable.

With the current hot and dry weather, these fires pose a serious risk. They could easily spread to nearby homes, farmland and standing crops, putting lives, livelihoods and wildlife at risk. They also place unnecessary pressure on our Fire Service, wasting valuable time, resources and water at a time when they are already likely to be extremely busy.

If you have CCTV footage, witnessed any suspicious activity, or have any information that could help identify those responsible, please get in touch. We are offering a reward for information that leads to those responsible being identified.

This was not an accident. Please remain vigilant and report anything suspicious. By looking out for one another, we can help keep our community safe and protect our countryside.

All information will be treated in confidence. Even the smallest piece of information could make a difference.

Thank you for your support.
