As many of you know, today marks the final day that myself and the team have had the privilege of operating The Golden Lion.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your incredible support over the last few months. Through all the ups and downs, you’ve helped us keep the atmosphere, music, laughter, smiles, and spirit of this beautiful pub alive. The Golden Lion is a place rich in heritage and history, and together we’ve ensured it remained at the heart of both the local community and the visitors who pass through its doors.

We simply could not have done it without you.

You have all been amazing throughout this journey, and we genuinely hope that the new operators taking over from tomorrow receive the same support, encouragement, and goodwill that you have shown us. We wish them every success as they continue the great work and build on everything we’ve achieved together.

I would also like to take a moment to thank every member of my team. You stepped into something completely different from what we do at the Port Gaverne Hotel, and you gave 110% every single day. Your dedication, commitment, and passion ensured that the standards we set were never compromised.

Even when we faced challenges, particularly with the kitchen being closed and unable to operate, we refused to let that define us. Instead, we focused on making sure everyone who walked through our doors felt welcome, valued, and part of the journey. From day one until today, we have always tried to be open, honest, and transparent, and I am incredibly proud of how we approached every obstacle together.

Most importantly, thank you to all of you for supporting us, standing by us, and helping bring The Golden Lion back to life. The transformation over the last few months has been remarkable, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the role you’ve played in it.

Thank you for joining us tonight and spending our final day at The Golden Lion with us. While this chapter may be coming to an end, we’re only down the road at the Port Gaverne Hotel, and you’ll always be welcome there. We look forward to creating many more memories and sharing many more moments with all of you in the future.

Today marks the end of an incredible chapter at The Golden Lion. 🍻

What a journey it has been—filled with great people, unforgettable memories, plenty of laughs, and lessons that will stay with us all for years to come.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this chapter. While it’s time to move on, the memories made here will always have a special place with me.

Here’s to new beginnings, but The Golden Lion will always be a place I’ll look back on with pride and gratitude. ❤️

Hello everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts and provide an update on our involvement with the Golden Lion over the past 16 weeks.

As both a manager and a member of this community, seeing pubs and teams in our area facing challenges is never something I can simply overlook. That is why we became involved with the Golden Lion over 16 weeks ago, and why we stepped in full-time five weeks ago to help keep the pub open for local residents, visitors, and everyone who holds it close to their heart.

For me, the Golden Lion is a cherished part of Port Isaac. As a focal point of village life, I could not stand by and watch it close its doors.

I have been incredibly grateful for the support of the team at St Austell Brewery, as well as the dedication, hard work, and commitment shown by my own team throughout this journey. Together, we have worked tirelessly to support the business, strengthen its foundations, and help prepare it for the right new tenant to lead it into the future.

From the very beginning, I have always tried to be open, honest, and transparent with you all, and that is why I want to share the next step in the process.

My team and I will continue running the Golden Lion until 14th June. At that point, we will hand the pub back to St Austell Brewery, with the intention of it then being passed on to a new tenant who can guide the business into its next chapter.

I want to be clear that we are stepping away not because we have no other choice, but because we believe it is the right thing to do. It allows us to give our full attention to our own pub while creating space for the incoming tenant to focus wholeheartedly on rebuilding and securing the Golden Lion’s future for the benefit of the community.

The Golden Lion deserves a stable, thriving future, and I genuinely believe this is the best path toward achieving that.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past 16 weeks. Your encouragement, loyalty, and kindness have meant so much to me and the team. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved together, and we wish nothing but success for the Golden Lion, its future team, and everyone who cares about this special place.

☀️ Heatwave mode: ON ☀️

Firstly… how lucky are we to be enjoying weather like this? 🌊🍻 But while everyone’s making the most of the sunshine, we wanted to give a little shout out to our amazing team behind the scenes.

Our bars and service areas get seriously hot during days like these, and our staff continue to work incredibly hard to keep the drinks flowing, food coming and smiles on faces.

Over the next few days, there may be moments where service is a little slower than usual as we make sure our team take breaks, stay hydrated and look after themselves too.

Your patience, kindness and understanding never go unnoticed and we’re so grateful for the support you continue to show us 💙
