And it’s a wrap….

The finishing touches have been made and the last spray can, put away. Again we are grateful for Dave Nash Gnasher Murals who has come back to gods own village and sprinkled some more magic to create a second art installation. DIOLCH

Last night we joined Dave and dad Brian for a meal and a few drinks. They are now part of the Pontrhydyfen family and lifelong friendships have been made.

2027 will be Ivor’s birth centenary and we wanted to give a nod to the achievements he had in roles on stage, film and TV.

Ivor moved to his maternal family home in Pontrhydyfen as an infant. Sadly in 1941, he and his younger brother experienced great childhood trauma of losing both parents, grandfather and infant sister when a stray bomb flattened the home one night.

Their beloved auntie Flossie brought the boys up in the village and here, Ivor joined the operatic society which gave him the foundation to a career which he loved.

Thank you to the Emmanuel family for their thoughts, ideas and support. We hope you are pleased.

We hope that visitors come to see our murals, support our businesses, enjoy our landscapes and our iconic bridges, but most of all, we hope that you experience the CROESO that Pontrhydyfen can offer.

Almost over the finishing line….

It’s been amazing to watch and also great to hear the positive feedback we have had about the talented Dave Nash Gnasher Murals over the weekend. Over the weekend we met residents, locals and visitors from near and far (Nantymoel to Devon)

Today will be the final day to see this talented artist put the finishing touches to our Ivor Emmanuel mural which has been part funded by Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund CIC

This mural depicts Ivor’s role as Pte. Owen, when he sings a rendition of ‘Men of Harlech’ in the film Zulu which has several Pontrhydyfen connections. Richard Burton provided a narration in the film but secondly, the son of John Williams (aka John Fielding) who was awarded a VC at Rorke’s Drift is actually commemorated on our oak war memorial after WW1.

Come along and take a look, it’s on the side of The Colliers Arms in Pontrhydyfen. Thank you to Bromley, Robert, and all the staff who have supported us over the weekend. DIOLCH
