☀️ We love the heat. Honestly, so grateful the sun’s here and we’re busy.

But real talk: our kitchens are ovens right now 🔥 The cake shed is unbearable. We’re down a freezer, ice machine AND cake fridge as they can’t cope (~£2.5k of kit, all at once, brilliant timing 🙃).

If you’ve never stood in front of a fryer or coffee machine in this heat and served with a smile — hard to explain it. But if you’re in hospitality, you already know. The joy of being busy vs the exhaustion of the heat. Both true at once.

To everyone in a kitchen or front of house this summer — we see you, we appreciate you.

Come grab an iced coffee on us this week. And if you can wrestle a day off in peak season (lol) — go relax. You’ve earned it.

Not all advice is good advice. Lesson no.567 of the business bible.

When I told the biggest wholesale to me I was going to make my own scones and sell them on the beach he laughed. He said that would never work…he gave me a season at best. He tried to get me to buy wholesale scones. He didn’t get the principle of the business was we made it. Why would we make it all? Because we want to make it the right way. We want the scones to be like your mum made. We want you to love them.

Guess what? He was wrong! We love making them and you love eating them.

Little did he know how fiercely stubborn I am. And how his words fuelled my early drive. A throw away comment kept rattling around in my head for so long; when I couldn’t sleep his words were there. Was I making a stupid mistake? Was I blindly optimistic? Was I wasting my time?

I was all of the above; but also I believed. I knew it would work. I was driven and I was rentless in driving things forward. I believed it would work - I just did.

I’ll let you be the judge of whether he was right or not. In my sixth season at the beach, open year round and with a seasonal tearoom at the Castle where we sell out of scones daily…

Guess we are doing okay.

Fancy a cream tea done well? Come see us.

5 things about me that have nothing and everything to do with what I do…

1. I have a BA Hons in Adventure Recreation. I got bored reading the alphabetical UCAS book and I wanted to join the army and was good at being outdoors so picked a degree beginning with A that was outdoors! 3 years later I would say I mainly learnt how to sink a Snake bite and black in one go.

2. I have a twin brother. Perhaps why I like organising people. Perhaps why I am competitive. Who knows.

3. I worked for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service. In fact when I moved down to Cornwall I commuted back three days a week doing compressed hours. I learnt the value of social media strategy writing the Fire Services’ first policy and also brand guidelines are everything.

4. I broke B’s leg. I was walking up a hill. Head down. She stuck her leg out. I walked into the wall. We were blue lighted when finally looked at her as they thought it was a bad break. At this point I realised I wanted to do a job around the children that allowed me to be there when these emergencies arose. (She was very accident prone and collected all the hospital teddies)

5. A couple of months ago I acquired the two next door units on the beach as a joint business venture with the bar. It wasn’t part of my plan. It so far from how I normally make business decisions. But it felt right

Are you a hottie or a nottie? (Just made that up. Someone who doesn’t like the heat).

I hear by declare I am a hottie…something I have never said before. I LOVE it.

I love being warm. I love how happy people are in the sun. I love how the weight of parenting eases just a little and I love sharing our iced drinks with you.

So with a lot of love and excitement I give you our humble iced offering.
- the peach iced soda is the quiet, understated one, a blend of Bird & Blend Tea Co. that is delicate and refreshing
-the cold brew and tonic. The bold and unashamedly proud to be different one, brewed for 24hrs using Surface Coffee Roasters ® Moonlight blend. The one you don’t think you will like but you become very quickly addicted to.
-the cold brew with brown sugar foam. The one you didn’t know you needed in your life until it is and then you can’t stop thinking about when you will meet again.

Which one is your favourite?

A weird week.

A week where the heavy weather seemed to seep into everyone’s mood.

A week where we closed the doors on our castle season, while at the same time throwing ourselves into plans and ideas for an even bigger and better return in 2027.

A week that reminded us, once again, that building the right team is at the very heart of what we do. The places we go and the events we serve may change, but the right people around us make all the difference.

A week where we swung from castles to football marquees, from one end of the events world to the other.

But wherever we went, one thing remained the same.

We met lovely people.

People grateful for good food, grateful for good drinks, and grateful for a space to gather.

Those moments are easy to take for granted when the weather is challenging and the weeks feel long, but they are exactly why we do what we do.

Here’s to brighter skies, another busy week ahead, and continuing to create places people can eat, drink and gather.

Something new is brewing…

New menu now available! I have been playing with this for a while. Nervous about change. Nervous about whether you would like it. But…bagels - who knew the beach needed them?!

There’s the crispy streaky bacon bagel…simple, done well with quality ingredients. Or the more indulgent chopped smoked salmon or avocado, feta and pink onions.

I asked the small people in my life what was missing from the menu. Jess - chips (head over to for those) Bethany - pesto and Anna Nutella.

So now you will find cheese and pesto toasties, and (genius work by young Anna) Nutella and fruit toasties. Try it. You will be hooked.

And I haven’t even got onto the cold brew yet! Surface Coffee Roasters ® suggested their Moonlight blend for cold brew and oh. My. Word. Obsessed with these. But more of my love of cold brew very soon.

Proud of this new menu. Simple food, done well. Drinks we are proud of and still our signature home made cakes.

Open all weekend. We would love to know what’s your new favourite.
