This week is all about gooseberries.

Just a few steps from our kitchen, our gooseberry bushes have given us their very first crop. We think gooseberries are one of the most underrated fruits of the summer – beautifully sweet with just the right touch of sharpness.

This week you’ll find them in our Gooseberry Frangipane Tart with buttery pastry.

We also made our very first batch of homemade gooseberry varenye. If you’ve never tried it before, you’re not alone – neither had we until this week! Safe to say, we’ll definitely be making it again.

That’s the joy of cooking with the seasons. When nature says “now”, we listen.

🦞 Whole North Atlantic Lobster Weekend

Thursday 23rd – Saturday 25th July

Freshly caught North Atlantic lobsters will arrive on Thursday morning.

Approximately 1 kg each, roasted to order with our local Mountberger garlic butter, and served with a portion of chips and our kitchen garden mixed leaf salad.

£65 per whole lobster

🦞 Only 8 whole North Atlantic lobsters available this week.

Available for Lunch & Dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

👉 To reserve yours: Simply book your table online for lunch or dinner as usual and, in the comments section of your reservation, let us know how many lobsters you would like us to prepare (one, two, three… or more!).

As each lobster is cooked to order, we kindly ask that reservations are made at least 24 hours in advance.

🍷 Lobster deserves a great white wine. Choose from 16 carefully selected white wines, including Picpoul de Pinet, Chablis and Sancerre, and we’ll be delighted to recommend the perfect match.

Friday means one thing… Sarah is here. 🌿🍓

If you’ve ever enjoyed berries, herbs or vegetables from our kitchen garden, there’s a very good chance you have Sarah to thank.

Every Friday, she arrives with a smile, endless energy and what we can only describe as magic hands. She notices the little things the rest of us miss, knows exactly what each plant needs, and somehow turns hard work into something that looks effortless.

Today’s harvest says it all… strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries and blackcurrants, all picked just metres from our kitchen, ready for Bryn to turn into something delicious.

We honestly don’t know what we would do without her.

Thank you, Sarah, for your dedication, your knowledge, your hard work and for helping our little kitchen garden flourish. You are simply amazing. 💚

One of the best parts of the day wasn’t just the award… ❤️

It was spending time with so many talented chefs, restaurateurs and hospitality professionals from across Great Britain.

Running an independent restaurant can sometimes feel like a world of its own, so it was wonderful to catch up with familiar faces, make new ones, and celebrate alongside this year’s Good Food Guide 100 Best Local Restaurants.

A huge thank you to The Good Food Guide (The Good Food Guide ) for organising such a fantastic award ceremony. It was beautifully organised and a wonderful celebration of independent hospitality.

And when the ceremony came to an end… the celebrations continued.🎊

We headed to Wiltons (Wiltons ) and Dukes (Dukes Bar ), where we shared great food, plenty of laughter and raised a glass with our colleagues whom we proudly call our friends.🤗❤️

Some of the very best memories are made around a table.

Congratulations once again to every restaurant recognised this year. It was an honour to celebrate with you all.🥂🍾🎊

We still can’t quite believe this has happened… ❤️

For the third consecutive year, THE GORDON ARMS Restaurant with Rooms has been named one of The Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants in Great Britain.

And this year…

WE’RE RANKED #62 IN THE UK.

Even writing those words feels surreal.

What makes this recognition so special is that it begins with you.

Around 60,000 nominations were made by diners across Great Britain before anonymous Good Food Guide inspectors selected the final 100 restaurants.

To think that our little husband-and-wife restaurant, together with our tiny but mighty team, tucked away in the beautiful Yarrow Valley, has found its place among them once again is something we’ll never take for granted.

We’re not in a city.

We’re not on a bustling high street.

We’re simply here, where people make a special journey because someone they trust said,

“You really should go.”

We often joke that we’re in the middle of nowhere.

But thanks to all of you, this little corner of the Yarrow Valley has become the centre of so many wonderful memories.

To everyone who has visited us, nominated us, recommended us, celebrated life’s special moments with us, or simply believed in what we’re trying to create…

Our very first strawberries of the season have finally made an appearance – almost three weeks later than usual. But they were definitely worth the wait. 🍓

And the real surprise? Blackcurrants everywhere! We’ve never had a crop like this. In just one week’s time, they’ll be making their way onto the menu and into just about everything we can think of! 🫐

The heroes of the story are, once again, Tom, who built our fruit cage in April, and Sarah, who helped with the netting. For the first time ever, the birds didn’t beat us to the harvest… we finally got there first! 😄🐦

Who else thinks berries taste even better when you’ve picked them yourself? 🤩
