What a lovely week on the farm! Cooler weather meaning we could get on top of some jobs in the polytunnels. We hosted two groups of volunteers that have helped us catch up on weeding and planting and we hosted an event for the University - busy! πŸ’ͺ

But oh my goodness we would love some rain 🌧️ there is a lot of watering going on and very few millimetres falling from the sky. And what's this round the corner? Heatwave number 2! πŸ˜‚

It's tough growing out there but our own Farm produce is really filling the veg boxes now and it's super to share the bounty with our awesome customers.

Also shout out to those customers who have supported us by donating their veg boxes during their allotment abundance. This means our local produce can still go to feeding people across the city via Food Works Sheffield and ShipShape Community Hub 🍲😍

Well that was quite the week! β˜€οΈ

First of all, a big huge thank you to the Regather team. Our farmers have been up at the farm for 6am harvesting the veg and flowers, the packing team have been working with ice packs tucked into their clothes, our trike and van drivers have delivered your boxes safely in the sunshine and the office team have been keeping everyone at the HQ happy feeding us all watermelon (thanks Karen!).

Climbing beans, broad beans, spring onions, beetroot, herbs, courgettes (planted with the help from volunteers- thank you!) and bunched carrots are all coming from the Regather farm. And for the first time ever- potatoes!

We hope you’ve all enjoyed your veg boxes this week and make some tasty dishes with the contents!

The farm is now really pumping out the food and flowers now and lots of our veg boxes have had lots of Regather grown veg.

And there's lots more to come. Including new potatoes! πŸ₯” The team was very excited lifting these this week as it's a new crop for us.

Spring onions, broad beans πŸ«› carrots, garlic πŸ§„ salad πŸ₯— and radish 🫜 plus more.

While our flower growing is going super well and we've been super busy supplying flowers across the city for florists, subscription customers, gift bouquets and DIY weddings. And we're excited to start our PYO flowers in July. Dates are on the website and available to book now! πŸ’βœ‚οΈ

With all the rain and now sun 🌞 the Farm team have declared the hungry gap is over and the abundance of local Sheffield grown produce is coming to our boxes.

Our first ever potato crop is looking healthy and the flowers are really pumping out now. We've got plenty of produce coming to Nether Edge Market this Sunday. πŸ₯•πŸ«œπŸ₯”πŸ₯¬πŸ’

We're also super thankful to our recent volunteers who helped us to smash out planting over 600 squash plants! πŸ’ͺ

Thank goodness for some rain this week! After the scorching heatwave our broad bean crop is really coming along, as well as swelling our carrots as they start to go in more veg boxes.

Rachel had to cut in the rain this week for two weddings and protected some short stems of β€œbunny tails” πŸ‡ in her pocket!

We also spotted a new bug πŸͺ² on the farm - a Dock bug caught on camera by Meg.

Off the farm, Gareth has been continuing his work with Newfield School children - supporting them to present their ideas for the regeneration of Gleadless Valley.

Happy Friday πŸ₯•πŸŒ±πŸŒΎ

Parsnips going in last week β€” direct sown into the bed using our new Jang seeder, which we're still getting to know. It felt a bit optimistic in the middle of a heatwave, but parsnips need a long season and they won't wait for cooler weather.

These are a winter crop, so if everything goes to plan they'll be ready to harvest around December. Market gardening means thinking several seasons ahead even when it's 28 degrees and you'd rather be doing almost anything else.

More updates as they (hopefully) germinate. 🌱
