Thank you & goodbye 💛

After 9 and a half wonderful years, today marks the end of our journey with Turned Wood Café at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings. Before this, many of you will have joined us at The Green Wood Café in Ironbridge Gorge (and for a very short spell at Gestalt in Shifnal, just before COVID).

We’d love for you to keep supporting some the brilliant local makers we’ve worked with including :

A heartfelt thank you to every customer who has supported us and to every single person who’s worked alongside us over the years. We’ve been so lucky to share this journey with you.

We’re now leaving hospitality, and we wish Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings and whatever comes next for the café nothing but the very best.

A Message from the Turned Wood Café Family
☕️✨

After much reflection, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Turned Wood Café from OCTOBER this year.

The recent changes that we made helped reduce costs but despite staying busy, with ever increasing operational costs and reduced consumer spending, the margins are simply too tight for a small family business and we can’t continue to absorb the rising costs anymore. Jodylea and Matt are already pursuing exciting new careers outside of hospitality and Michelle & Jason (Mum & Dad) will be looking to do similar. Our wonderful team are also moving on to new challenges in University/Career changes.

We want to say a huge thank you to English Heritage, for their ongoing support since they have taken over running the Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings and we want to stress that their ‘takeover’ has nothing to do with us leaving, we wish them all the luck in managing The Mill and we look forward to visiting the cafe in the future.

And finally, thank you to you – our amazing community, for your support over the years.

📣 Bread Update from Turned Wood Café
Following our recent post about the sudden closure of our lovely bread bakers, we’ve got some good news…

We’re now working with Bread and Loaf as our new bread supplier! 🍞

A huge thank you to everyone who sent us recommendations – your support really helped. These amazing bakers are just down the road, and we’re thrilled to be using their bread for our toasties, soups, and more.

📣 Just a heads-up: we’re closed today (Easter Sunday) due to some operational changes at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, but we’ll be open tomorrow (Easter Monday) if you’re in need of coffee, cake, or a cosy corner to escape to.

Please note: We’ll be CLOSED on Easter Sunday and OPEN on Bank Holiday Monday this year, due to operational changes at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings.

Here’s when you can pop by for your favourite coffee ☕, cake 🍰 or lunch 🥪:
• Good Friday: 10am – 4pm
• Saturday: 10am – 4pm
• Easter Sunday: Closed

Sad news today regarding one of our suppliers 😢

We’ve just heard that the lovely family-run bakery we’ve been using for bread has ceased trading as of today. We’re really sad to see them go and wish them all the very best for the future.

In the meantime, we’re now on the lookout for a new bakery that can deliver bread regularly to us here at Turned Wood Cafe in Shrewsbury. If you know a brilliant local bakery—or if you are one—please drop the details in the comments or pop in for a chat.
