** PETITION TO REDUCE VAT , PLS SIGN **
Guys, it is not new -news that the hospitality industry has been doing it tough for some time . Many doors closed where businesses are unable to remain viable .
This petition is part of how we can all do something to be heard, to help .
VAT currently sits at 20% . For us personally this means every hot drink we sell, we pay 20% to HMRC .
£3.80 latte - 76p to HMRC !! Our latte now nets us £3.04 before :
* cup and lid
* Milk
* Staff cost
* Coffee ( premium organic)
* Overheads - ( rent , electricity, waste , insurance etc )
Now , a VAT registered business can obviously offset the VAT they spend each quarter against what is due to HMRC . In Coffee world we spend ££££s on :
Coffee - NO VAT
Milk - NO VAT
Syrups - NO VAT
Wages - NO VAT
Rent - NO VAT ( STC) *
I could keep going but as you see most of our expenditure unless leasing equipment or making new purchases often are zero rated VAT.
The above Latte served cold - is zero VAT ….. same coffee , same milk , same cost of cups and lids , staff etc …… thank goodness it’s summer !!! ☀️ but jokes aside WTAF ???
Ever noticed why Greggs sell food that has been baked / cooked etc but is served as a non hot / cooling down food item ……. zero VAT !! Smart, but should not be necessary!!
The same cheese and bean slice served as a hot food item will be liable to 20% VAT ……..
Coffee shops , bars , restaurants if not closing down are increasing prices to survive…. Rising fuel costs , staff minimum wage rise, dry goods and coffee etc - all increasing …… they have no choice and you the customer feel this in the wallet .
I have managed to hold our prices for over 18 months but this is not sustainable and unless we get some breathing space, Bay will also have to increase to help us survive .
Please can you take 2 mins to sign this Gov petition. It’s super quick and it may help the industry reduce VAT to 10% and save many of us .
please do whatever you can for us, let’s get this done 💪🏼
