om the farm through our traditional on-site butchery. Breakfast is served from 9.00am - 11.30am, lunch from 12.00pm - 3.00pm and beverages, cakes and scones are served until 4.30pm. The Steak Barn Hours

As well as a alite bite offering, like this yummy MARINATED CHILLI CHICKEN ON FOCACCIA, you'll be able to order steaks, burgers etc. from the main menu!

You may have heard or used the expression “sweating like a pig” in these high temperatures this week- but did you know that pigs have very few sweat glands and cannot effectively sweat to cool down?

To help them out we create wallows for them to baste themselves in, which also helps protect against sunburn and limit bites from midges and horseflies. Each piggy paddock also has long grass which keeps the ground cooler, and trees which provide welcome shade and a scratching post. In short, a piggy paradise.

Hot weather can be challenging for all livestock, but we do our utmost to keep them comfortable, whatever the weather.

We jump at every opportunity we get to demonstrate what, how, and why we do what we do at Balgove, no matter the age…

This week we welcomed P1/P2 from Guardbridge Primary School, along with . These 6 year olds got to see Emma and Evonne at the Market Garden, where they touched and smelt herbs, witnessed the tomatoes in early growth, amongst other veggie plants.

After a farm chat and shop visit with Will, they got to see Jason and Lewis who showed them how we make our sausages, from start to finish, with the fresh herbs they’d just seen growing a stone’s throw away!

It’s fair to say they all left wanting sausages for their dinner!!

From this weekend, the FARM SHOP & BUTCHERY will be OPEN TILL 6PM, ON SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS, DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS!!!!

That’s right, you’ll now have an EXTRA HOUR to STOCK UP for the BBQ, WORLD CUP PROVISIONS and everything between!!

(Please note that the Cafe will close at 4.30pm as normal.)
