The White Lion has been at the heart of the Ash community for over 250 years, welcoming locals and visitors to enjoy excellent fare and a good natter. Over the years the pub has provided freshly cooked, locally sourced food and an excellent range of drinks. In 2017, with the retirement of long-standing owners, the local community took the opportunity to raise money to purchase The White Lion and d
o some refurbishment, including the creation of a wild-flower beer garden. Over 170 people bought shares, raising over £220,000 to make The White Lion North Shropshire’s first community-owned pub. This was further supported by grant and loan support from The Plunkett Foundation through their ‘More than a Pub’ programme. This has enabled the Lion to keep roaring, and we go from strength to strength. With the retirement of our pub manager in 2020, we have now welcomed Shaun Embrey as our new pub manager. Shaun is a Shropshire lad, and is delighted to move back from the North East of the UK to take on the reins of our ‘perfect pub’. He is keen to sustain and build on the great reputation built by The White Lion over the years, sourcing fine, local ales and wholesome food. If you fancy an alternative to beer, we have a great selection of gins (we have a well-stocked gin bar), wines, spirits and ciders, and can also provide a range of cocktails. We are child-friendly (bring your lion cubs!) and welcome dogs (but not real lions!) into the bar and garden. We are a traditional pub set in an idyllic village, two miles from Whitchurch. The kitchen provides mouthwatering seasonal menus, showcasing some of Shropshire’s finest suppliers. There are also regular ‘specials’ evenings, ranging from Italian, Greek and Indian nights to Fish and Chip nights. Regular quizzes are a feature, as are Darts, Bridge, Bookclub and ‘Prayer and a Pint’ events. We love and are proud of our pub and it’s contribution to the life of our community.
