Fantastic Feasts and Where to Find Them #55
Where does a wizard go to put an extra SPRING in his step during a busy half-term? To the newly expanded…Spring Espresso on Fossgate!
With rich smooth coffee in almost every variety imaginable, this is a popular spot for fans of the magic bean. The baristas work their magic with latte art too, and are happy to advise on types, flavours and speciality milks ☕️
Visitors to my Wizard Walk of York can always expect a rare-bit of magic here in Yorkshire, and so I opted for…the Yorkshire Rarebit! You see what I did there? Too cheesy? Speaking of which, expect creamy melted cheese with Henderson’s Relish and chilli jam on sourdough toast. Served with a side salad, for health. Posh cheese on toast essentially, but delicious! Even on a busy day, it arrived quickly and went down a treat. I raise a ‘toast’ to the chef 🧀🍞
To follow, a buttery shortbread biscuit (which is neither short, nor bread) with moreish chocolate chunks. This melted in the mouth, and was the perfect accompaniment to a great coffee. Plenty of other treats on offer too including brownies, granola slices, pastries and cakes. My recommendation? Try the bostock slice - deliciously soft and buttery pastry, with fresh fruit. Berry nice! 🫐
The menu also features French toast, porridge ciabatta sandwiches, eggs every which way, and even pancakes with tempting toppings. Things are really stacking up! 🥞
One of two branches, you’ll find the second Spring Espresso - Lendal closer to the Museum Gardens and a short walk from the train station. Find the original though at 45 Fossgate in York, now with more seating.
Make mine an espresso…Espresso Patronum! 🪄
