For the first Made in Kowloon Bar Event, Avoca teamed up with Clan & Community Bar & Lounge 五味堂涼茶酒館, united by a shared passion for celebrating culture, flavours, and creativity that makes Kowloon unique.

More than 200 guests joined us at Avoca for a crazy night drinking over 500 cocktails, dancing to familiar Canto Pop tunes and celebrating the spirit of Kowloon.
The Kowloon bar community continues to reinterpret local traditions, telling stories that inherently relate to this city, reflecting on local heritage and offering unique aspects specific to this amazing part of the world.

More importantly, it demonstrated that some of the most exciting things in our city are happening right here in Kowloon.

Thank you to .andco and all of you who joined us and made this an amazing start to a collaboration series dedicated to the people, places, and ideas shaping Kowloon’s drinking culture today.

MADE IN KOWLOON | VOL. 1: CLAN & CO X AVOCA

Long misunderstood yet deeply vibrant, Kowloon has always been a hub of culture, creativity, and nightlife. From cha chaan tengs and dai pai dongs to late-night music venues and bustling markets, its stories continue to inspire a new generation of bartenders and creatives.

At Avoca, Kowloon has always been at the heart of what we do. With signature cocktails inspired by food and drink creations originating mostly in Kowloon, including beloved street-side flavours to the everyday rituals that long defined life on this side of the harbour. It’s the authentic heritage of this part of the city that continues to inspire us, both behind the bar and beyond.

To kick off the series celebrating people and ideas shaping Kowloon’s evolving drinking culture, we are partnering with CLAN & CO Community Bar .andco .

Deeply rooted in Yau Ma Tei, Clan & Co has become one of Kowloon’s most distinctive community-driven bars, known for transforming local ingredients, herbal traditions, and neighbourhood stories into inventive cocktails that feel unmistakably Hong Kong. Their approach to bartending goes beyond drinks—it’s cultural storytelling in a glass.

On 12 June and for one night only, Clan & Co collaborates with Avoca, celebrating the flavours, creativity, and Kowloon’s Community.

Featuring Dennis Mak , Co-founder of Magnolia Lab, Yiu Hei of Clan & Co, and Avoca’s Head Bartender Rolf Flaminiano alongside the Avoca team, each showcasing their perspective of the Kowloon spirit and culture.

Expect nostalgic bites including Tai On’s signature egg tarts and pineapple jam buns, plus a Canto-pop DJ set—all in tribute to the Kowloon we call home.

Back in April, we had Felix from Carrots .jakarta behind the bar at Avoca for a one-night guest shift — and it was a really special one.

Carrots, ranked #34 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2025, carries a spirit built on warm hospitality, connection, and thoughtful drinks — and Felix brought all of that with him, along with a friendly smile and a lineup of flavour-driven cocktails that set the tone for the night.

Behind the bar, he was constantly chatting with guests, mixing, pouring, and making sure everyone felt at home — with familiar faces, new guests, and industry friends all sharing the same space and energy.

Everything just flowed — good drinks, good people, and an easy, full room.

Big thanks to Felix for bringing Carrots’ energy to Avoca, and to , , , and for making it happen.

Introducing Unicorn – our cocktail for Pride Month

Unicorns have always been considered magical creatures with powers to neutralise poisons and curing diseases. They symbolise courage and chivalry, are brave, represent diversity and love. They look gentle but are fierce and yet what we like most is that they don’t really have a defined gender, they are glamourous and glitzy and full of colour. They are fun and beautiful and unique and also a symbol of hope.

The words ”Unicorn“ and ”unique“ are in fact etymological cousins and this shared root perfectly connects the mythological creature with the literal meaning of unique (”one of a kind“).

Avoca’s Pride cocktail combines Planteray Coconut Rum, Cacao, homemade Orange spiced Elixir, Cream and Berries and is sweet, smooth, bright and just a little dreamy.

A toast to being magical.

This May, Avoca turns up the volume with Hong Kong-based DJ Fabsabs and Home Grooves — a playlist rooted in the sounds of the city that shaped him.

Born in Hong Kong and raised between cultures, Fabsabs grew up immersed in the city’s music scene, building a deep connection with local sounds from an early age. For this month’s mix, he dives into his vinyl collection to bring together some of his favourite Hong Kong tracks, spanning Cantopop, Canto disco and underground gems.

Known for his energetic sets and thoughtful selections, Fabsabs has brought his sound to audiences across Hong Kong and beyond — from international festivals including Clockenflap and the Tour de France, to stages in London and Manchester, sharing line-ups with artists including Black Eyed Peas, DJ Snake, Sammi Cheng and Joey Yung.

Curated through the lens of his Cantomania collective, expect lesser-played finds, nostalgic moments and tracks that keep things moving from start to finish.

Introducing Sa Yung 莎翁 — our cocktail tribute to Shakespeare

The Hong Kong International Shakespeare Festival returns to Hong Kong with nine plays reimagined through different cultural adaptations. In tribute to this classical art form with a local twist, Avoca is launching the Sa Yung 莎翁 cocktail. Sa Yung is a playful nod to Shakespeare, told through the flavours of Hong Kong. Inspired by the classic sugar puff pastry found in old-school bakeries across the city—crispy, airy, coated in sugar, and best eaten warm. The fun twist? Sa Yung shares the same pronunciation as Shakespeare’s Chinese nickname. Naturally, we had to turn this into a cocktail.

Sa Yung also pairs perfectly with black coffee (齋啡), another nostalgic cha-chaan-teng staple. We reimagine this combination by blending chocolate-washed baijiu with cacao, dry vermouth, Mr Black Amaro, yuzu marmalade, and espresso. The result is rich, bittersweet, citrusy, and smooth. Think roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and slightly burnt sugar edges, with a touch of yuzu cutting through the middle.

And yes, it’s finished with a homemade sugar puff garnish.

Available for a limited time until 21 June.

In a region home to so many exceptional bars, we are truly grateful for this recognition, especially for being just one of two bars in Kowloon!

100 Top Tables, South China Morning Post SCMP’s annual Dining & Bar guide, has been published since 2013, and is considered an indispensable guide to the Greater Bay Area most coveted Dining & Bar spots.

Known for its carefully considered selection, 100 Top Tables looks at the full experience — from mixology, cuisine to service, atmosphere and consistency.
