Cosmic Coffee Kintamani Bali Arabica Coffee COSMIC COFFEE is a small sustainable livelihoods project on Mt. Batur producing some of the best coffee in Bali.

Coffee farmer/holy woman Jero and her partners use traditional processes in order to support villagers and protect their environment, and pay farmers above market rates for the ripest red Arabica cherries. Shaded by citrus and hardwood trees, nourished by volcanic soil, organic fertilizer and pure rainwater, the ripe cherries are hand picked and pulped, fermented, rinsed and dried in the mountain

sun. The beans are roasted by hand in small batches and delivered to customers within 24 hours. This obsessive attention to every part of the beans’ journey, from mountain tree to market, gives you the freshest coffee with an outstanding flavor profile of dark chocolate, toasted pecans and citrus: the taste is out of this world.

Our coffee nursery has 1000 new little trees! And we keep planting more....Here you can see the new plant emerging with the seed/bean still covering it. Then the leaves emerging from the seed/bean and then free of the seed. This process takes about 4 months. We started planting in July when we were into our yearly harvest.

We at Cosmic Coffee are starting to notice leaf spot fungal disease on our newly planted coffee trees. The older trees are so far able to resist it taking over the tree. We are puzzled and watching....Don't know if this is from climate change. For now we are using a home made organic spray on the leaves to prevent spreading but the plants need to be sprayed every two weeks and the fungus can't be cured. So this makes growing and processing coffee even more labor intensive than it is already. This is an important article. We feel for the small farmers.

Just finishing our harvest for the year. Nine and a half tons!!! Fresh picked cherries, hulling coffee cherries, fresh hulled beans fermenting in a tub, coffee drying in the sun, Jero bringing holy water out of the cave at the Bukit Mentik temple. Celebration!
